Apple TV Already Has a Perfect Sci-Fi Replacement for Constellation
Make sure to have your subscription ready.
Summary:
- Constellation is an Apple TV Plus sci-fi thriller series that premiered on February 21.
- The show will consist of 8 episodes, with the finale to be released on March 27.
- However, Apple TV Plus already announced its next sci-fi premiere, Dark Matter.
While there are a number of exciting sci-fi premieres coming to many different platforms this year, no streamer is diving as deep into the genre as Apple TV Plus, which just premiered one multiverse series and has already announced another for release in May.
With both shows ultimately exploring the same concept borrowed from real-life quantum physics, but from different perspectives, Dark Matter will be able to attract more fans of the genre, as well as keep any Constellation fans as subscribers.
Here's everything we know about Apple TV Plus' Dark Matter, from its star-studded cast to its official release date.
When Will Apple TV Plus’ Dark Matter Come Out?
Based on the novel by Blake Crouch, the show is nothing like another series of the same name that you may have heard of. Produced by Syfy and Space in 2015, the series about a group of people who were put into stasis and then awakened on a spaceship with no memory of themselves lasted three seasons and ended in 2017
The Apple TV Plus drama is completely original, following a Chicago physicist's journey through different versions of reality to protect his family from a villainous version of himself.
Portrayed by Joel Edgerton, best known to viewers for his roles as Owen Lars in the Star Wars film franchise and Richard Loving in the 2016 historical drama Loving, Jason Dessen will be forced to go to the darkest of places to channel the most evil energy he can find within himself.
His wife, Daniela, will be portrayed by Jennifer Connelly, known to fans of the sci-fi genre as Melanie Cavill in Snowpiercer. Blake Crouch, the author of the original novel, will serve as showrunner, with star Joel Edgerton and David Manpearl and Matt Tolmach serving as executive producers.
Though similar to Constellation in principle, leaning heavily on the concept of the observer effect and covering the possibility of a multiverse reality, the series will still be different. Dark Matter promises to appeal more to action fans, as the main character will have to fight the villain, even if that villain is just another version of himself.
Constellation, on the other hand, will continue to explore each mystery of alternate universes through the prism of the main character's psychology, leaning more toward the thriller.
Either way, both shows are worth checking out if you are a fan of all things sci-fi. Constellation airs new episodes every Wednesday on Apple TV Plus. Dark Matter will premiere just a few months later, on May 8, 2024.
