According to fans, the Twisted Metal TV series has too many red flags to keep their expectations high.

Adapting video games for film or television is a task that all too many filmmakers have failed at, as even the most cinematic games are often turned into bland products that barely resemble the source material and lack its atmosphere.

However, there has been significant progress in this area, as evidenced by such successful projects as The Last of Us TV series and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

And Peacock, an American streaming service, has decided to join the growing trend by announcing its own videogame-based TV series, although the choice of source material remains rather questionable.

Twisted Metal, based on the vehicle combat video game series of the same name, was announced back in 2019 and will star Anthony Mackie, best known for his appearances in the MCU as Falcon/Captain America.

Recently, the actor shared his excitement for the upcoming series in an interview with Rolling Stone, sharing his positive experience, praising his co-stars, and believing that it will "blow away" the viewers.

Fans, however, are not buying any of it, certain that instead of blowing them away, the series will just blow, as there are already plenty of red flags.

First of all, Mackie's character, John Doe, is completely original to the series, not based on anyone from the games, and they remember all too well how "great" such additions were in Mortal Kombat (2021) and the Resident Evil movies starring Milla Jovovich.

Another major concern is that the TV series format may not suit the original at all, as it would have been much better as a high-budget action movie due to all the mayhem the game is famous for.

Some are also not thrilled with Mackie specifically, as they feel his acting usually leaves a lot to be desired (although this is questionable since the show will not be a deep drama).

All in all, Twisted Metal doesn't look too promising, although it's still too early to judge the series, which might end up being a surprise hit against all odds.

The first episode is scheduled to premiere on July 27, 2023.
