Another Huge Marvel Star Announces Departure from the Franchise

The superhero movie industry is rapidly changing now: both its giants, Marvel and DC, are undertaking massive transformations.

As the environment shifts, recently, it became fairly obvious that superhero movies are not as popular as they used to be some time ago and to bring their glory back, experimentation is in order.

DCU is, as per usual, struggling with defining what it wants to be, and now it may be the closest to the breakthrough it's ever been with James Gunn becoming its co-head.

Marvel sees its most famous and well-established actors leaving and, like their peers at DC, has to recast one too many characters.

Among the actors who announced their departure from the Marvel Universe are titans like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans, so at the very least three major Avengers will be recast.

But as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes closer, its actors also begin to bid their farewells.

Until now, we've already known that two of them are leaving. Dave Bautista who played Drax recently declared he wasn't coming back to the franchise, and, as scoopers claimed, Rocket is also not going to survive the third movie.

Now, yet another performer joins them on their way out.

Zoe Saldana (Gamora) recently revealed that she's leaving the Marvel Universe after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

She initially only wanted to play Gamora in one movie and was not expecting her character to be needed later which was partially the reason Gunn almost had Gamora killed in Guardians Vol. 2.

Now, she's definitely set on departing — but even with the news of other Guardians' actors leaving, it doesn't necessarily signal that this sub-franchise is done.

"I don't think this is the end for the Guardians. It is the end for me, for Gamora," Zoe told The Hollywood Reporter.

We'll have to wait and see if she's right, thorough: as the superhero genre is going through turmoil, many things are changing, and the biggest titans appear set on relaunching their franchise to breathe life into the new projects.

For Gamora, however, it's definitely the end — that much we can be certain of.
