Another Breaking Bad Spin-Off? Absolutely No, Bryan Cranston Says
It seems that the story of Saul Goodman is going to be the last one (thankfully).
Summary:
- The Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul ended in August 2022, sparking discussions about whether this universe needs another spin-off.
- Bryan Cranston believes it's time to let go of Breaking Bad because everything should have a beginning, middle and end.
- Better Call Saul brought the Breaking Bad saga to a logical conclusion, ending a story of cruelty and greed with a story of love that transformed Jimmy.
Better Call Saul, a spin-off of one of the most prominent TV shows of our time, Breaking Bad, ended in August 2022.
The tragedy of the con lawyer not only maintained the level of its predecessor, but it also gave rise to controversy – do we need another spin-off?
Viewers Are Tired of Endless Spin-Offs
In modern cinema, almost every spin-off, sequel, prequel, and remake is accused of destroying the original – changing the characters, breaking the logic and the laws of the world. Sometimes it's just bad and lazy writing, and sometimes it's an inability to reach the level of the original show.
Either way, modern TV culture is tired of spin-offs of all kinds, which is why it's so surprising that Better Call Saul not only maintained and even surpassed the level of the original, following the rules and logic of the universe, but managed to build a bunch of new things.
Bryan Cranston Believes Breaking Bad Story Has Ended
But despite the undeniable genius of Better Call Saul, it seems like it's time for the Breaking Bad universe to finally retire. And Bryan Cranston feels the same way:
“Everything should come to an end. Everything's cyclical. Our lives are cyclical. The seasons, trees, everything. And, so, it's okay to have a beginning, middle, and end, and then let it go. I'm proud of what we did.”
Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gus Fring, has expressed hope that his character will one day get his own show where viewers can learn his backstory.
However, it seems that this universe has given the viewers everything it could and does not deserve to be stretched out only because of high ratings and the undying interest of fans, and not for ideological reasons.
Better Call Saul Was a Logical Conclusion
In the finale of Better Call Saul, Jimmy finally takes off his Saul Goodman mask and seems to change – he becomes more honest and admits his guilt. All thanks to his love for Kim, whom he initially pulled into the abyss of his dark essence, but she managed to escape.
This is the finale of not only the spin-off, but the entire Breaking Bad saga – and the creators managed to turn a story about despair, cruelty, drugs, and greed into a love story that could change even Saul Goodman.
