The Big Bang Theory is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, largely owing to its brilliant cast of characters.

Central to that cast, is the most unconventional, yet in many ways, also the most beautiful, relationship. The romance between Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. Fans were there when they met for the first time, a hilariously awkward encounter that only got funnier and more tender from there. Because despite them both being extremely odd, there was just something so endearing about watching the two of them fall in love.

Which is why fans are still not over what they consider to be a devastating betrayal on Amy's part. And no, we are not talking about when she briefly dated other men when she and Sheldon has broken up.

This alleged indiscretion happened while they were very much together and seemingly very happy; when she worked with Barry Kripke on string theory and ultimately helped him make an important advancement.

Fans will recall that Kripke comes into Amy's lab to give her a thank-you present for her assistance.

Sheldon, who is present at the time, is furious, being of the belief that his girlfriend should not have aided his enemy. He points out her awareness of their professional rivalry, as well as also noting that he gave up on string theory due to lack of progress. He comments how hard it would be for him to accept if Kripke subsequently made strides in that field, knowing his girlfriend had helped him to do so.

Amy reminded Sheldon that he had never asked for her help and instead, constantly ridiculed her field of work.

His disdain for biologists is well-known and he has often been at odds with Amy due to this. Even during the early stages of their relationship, they disagreed over their professional fields. Indeed, it is not until the tenth season when they start working together that he starts to see her research as valuable.

The episode continues with many of the characters taking Amy's side, feeling she has done nothing wrong. Amy's view is that her actions have advanced science and that no matter which researcher gains the credit, she has performed a good deed for the world. Penny teaches Sheldon the art of "letting things go" via a fun roleplay scene with an imaginary pen. Ultimately, Sheldon does forgive Amy for her betrayal, and they continue their relationship.

Some fans are not quite so forgiving, however. They feel that given Amy was completely aware of Sheldon's animosity toward Kripke, which was very much reciprocated, she should have declined his request for assistance. Further, they feel that given his research area is string theory, this is just a further slap in the face to Sheldon. It has not gone unnoticed that Sheldon often has some unusual quirks that cause him to react abnormally. But in this instance, many fans agree that he had every right to be upset with her behaviour.
