Amid Yellowstone's Premature Ending, Here's the Right Order to Watch Spin-offs
Yellowstone is painfully dying before our eyes, but the Dutton family will tell us many more stories thanks to Taylor Sheridan. Here's how to watch them the best way!
A conflict like that of Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner could've ended another show, but not Yellowstone. The main series is ending prematurely, but Sheridan has managed to turn his show into a full-blown universe.
The Yellowstone Universe already has two spin-offs that came out, and at least three more are in the works.
There's a reason why the Duttons have lived to these days: they're one scary bunch, and they've always been like that.
If you want to fully immerse yourself in the story of the Dutton family through the centuries, here's the correct order to watch all the Yellowstone Universe shows.
1883
1883 shows us the very beginning of the Dutton clan. The ten-episode miniseries tells the story of James and Margaret Duttons, the founders of the family, and their journey from Texas to Oregon that eventually led to them settling down in a place that would later be known as the Yellowstone Ranch.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves
The work-in-progress show about the iconic US lawmen will start with the story of Bass Reeves, the first African American US Marshall to serve west of the Mississippi River.
The series was initially called 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, so it's safe to assume that it will follow the events of the first miniseries.
1923
By 1923, the balance of power on the plains had changed, and finance and legal documents hold as much weight as raw firepower.
With none other than Harrison Ford himself, 1923 shows us the Duttons' struggle to come to terms with the changing world and defend their place against the rich and the crooked.
1944
Chronologically speaking, 1944 follows 1923 — that much we know from school. What we don't know, however, is any solid information on the details of this spin-off.
Based solely on the date, we can assume that this show, which is currently in the works, will reveal how the Duttons survived in the last two years of WWII.
Yellowstone
After a few-decades jump, the story takes us to the present day. Since you've clicked on this article, there's no real need to explain to you what Yellowstone is about: it is but the most brutal modern-day cowboy show in the world and the origin of the Dutton-verse. You should rewatch it after 1944 to keep things in order.
6666
This is totally not a far-future space-cowboy spin-off, don't worry. The 6666 show will feature the "four sixes" ranch from the original Yellowstone.
Since Sheridan has confirmed that 6666 will be set in the modern days, we're assuming that this series will follow the Yellowstone events.
The unnamed sequel
There's no secret that one of the sequels for Yellowstone will have Matthew McConaughey as its lead actor, and we're fairly certain that it's not 6666.
Since it's a sequel, it will obviously take place after Yellowstone, but we're not quite sure when and where exactly: no details have been spilled just yet.
