Amelia Kenworthy May Be Rings of Power's New Baddie in Season 2
Whether she is a brand-new character or one familiar to Tolkien fans, it most likely means more deviations from canon.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is getting closer by the day, bringing many more characters into the series, and it seems that it will possibly lead to even more departures from the source material, which will undoubtedly enrage even more die-hard Tolkien fans.
Amelia Kenworthy has joined the cast of the Amazon show and will appear in the next season, but some obscure details about her character are already raising suspicions.
According to recent leaks, she may be joining the ranks of the show's antagonists, as she reportedly did chemistry tests with Charlie Vickers, who portrays Sauron disguised as the human Halbrand, and Sam Hazeldine, who replaced Joseph Mawle as Adar, the current leader of the Orcs.
It's important to note that these tests don't automatically mean romantic scenes, so it's possible that Kenworthy's character will join them as an equal.
No details about her character have been revealed yet, but there are two very appealing possibilities. One is that Amelia could be an entirely new character created specifically for the show, which has happened on more than one occasion.
The other possibility is a bit tricky, as there are not many characters in Tolkien's lore that can be introduced into the story.
She could be playing a human form of Shelob, the demon spider, who technically already exists at the time the series takes place. This would be a huge "creative liberty" in terms of canon, but the showrunners might have taken a hint from the developers of the Middle-earth: Shadow of War video game who did just that.
There, Shelob was able to take the form of a woman and assisted the protagonist in his battle against Sauron, as she was once romantically involved with the Dark Lord, only to be betrayed by him later.
Needless to say, such a huge departure from the canon was not taken lightly by many fans, but Rings of Power has already proven itself to be not the most faithful of adaptations, so it remains a distinct possibility. Either way, there is no official confirmation yet.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 release date hasn't been announced yet, but it's expected sometime in 2024.
