The new season brings in some unexpected changes.

After a long wait, the third season of The Mandalorian is finally here, with the first episode premiering on March 1.

It continues the story of Din Djarin, the titular space bounty hunter, as he travels to the planet Mandalore to atone for his past transgressions. To celebrate the event, executive producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, accompanied by executive producer and director Rick Famuyiwa, as well as Katee Sackhoff (who portrayed the character of Bo-Katan Kryze), participated in a roundtable interview hosted by Skytalkers and revealed some interesting things about the series' timeline.

First of all, it seems that the events of the first two seasons take place over many years, which shocked viewers.

There were absolutely no clues to anticipate this turn of events, as the episodes seemed to follow each other and form a perfect chronology. Now that this revelation has been dropped, fans are scrambling to place the events of the series, as well as its spin-off, The Book of Boba Fett, into a larger Star Wars timeline.

The second bombshell is that Grogu, Din's green alien "adopted son," who was given to Luke Skywalker to undergo Jedi training in the season two finale, has been undergoing that training for two years before returning to Din in chapter 7 of The Book of Boba Fett.

But there is a huge catch.

At first it seemed that Grogu had been under Luke's tutelage for an insignificant amount of time, but in light of the new information, Luke's decision to spontaneously give his apprentice a choice between the Jedi way and his adoptive father after two years of training now seems rather questionable and controversial.

Fans are beginning to worry about the future of the series with the addition of such "soft retcons," which is completely understandable. Changing some aspects of the story in the middle of the journey, especially without a larger plan for the series as a whole, could be playing a very cruel joke with the show in the long run.

New episodes of The Mandalorian season 3 are scheduled to be released weekly on Disney Plus, with the season finale premiering on April 19, 2023.
