Fans have been bombarding The Winchesters' creators with accusations of the prequel retconning the original show long before its premiere.

There were hopes that The Winchesters would explain its frivolous treating of the Supernatural canon after the show premieres. However, with the first season being four episodes in the story, it is still unclear just how it works and whether it ruins the Supernatural canon or just flirts with the concept of the multiverse.

No matter how the show is going to explain it, there are many things The Winchesters has already messed up.

The very first one is naturally the way John became a hunter. In The Winchesters, Mary introduces him to the world of hunting, while Supernatural established that John only started eliminating monsters and demons after her death at the hands of Azazel.

"I thought so far John didn't know about monsters? Are they verging off left field from story line?" Redditor Independent-Plane-55 said.

Besides, something seems to be very wrong with Mary's dad.

"Also, Mary's dad is missing. Are you kidding me? "Dad's on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home in a few days". That could not be more cringe. They're rewriting the whole supernatural history by copying Sam and dean's origin story for John and Mary," Redditor Scass0807 argued.

However, even despite major issues with canon, some Supernatural fans seem to have dramatically changed their approach.

Looks like the show managed to conquer the hearts with chemistry between the actors and the storyline — to a point where certain fans are ready to accept its tricks with canon.

Besides, there is always a chance that the events of The Winchesters are unfolding in some kind of a multiverse (heaven, for instance, in case Dean Winchester is dead and is on a mission up in the skies). Another possibility is that at some point in the show, John and Mary's memories will get erased and they will somehow meet again — but this time, their story will develop in line with the canon.

The Winchesters airs on The CW on Tuesdays, with the first season consisting of 13 episodes.
