That’s what happens when the soap spills outside the script.

All My Children's Susan Lucci is widely known and respected for sticking to her role of Erica Kane for 41 years, making it the entire run of the soap. Over the years, however, a part of Erica may have overshadowed the actress' own personality, making her a part of several scandals involving her co-stars.

One of the most notable ones would be the conflict she had with Sarah Michelle Gellar, who joined the cast of All My Children as a novice actress to portray Kane's daughter, Kendall Hart. Although Gellar only stayed on the show for two years, from 1993 to 1995, those years may have been the hardest of her career.

Not only did she have to learn a lot about acting in a crazy soap schedule, but she also reportedly had to work through the hostility of her on-screen mother, Susan Lucci.

Although never publicly confirmed, it was reported several times that Lucci was the one who pulled the trigger on Sarah Michelle Gellar and got her fired after the young actress won the Emmy, and not her on-screen mother, who quickly became an off-screen rival. Allegedly, the rumor came from Gellar herself, but the source was never really identified.

Worse, the conflict didn't die down two decades later, as Lucci was rumored to have been rude to Gellar during her 2011 comeback for All My Children's final chapter. As the National Enquirer reported, citing one of Gellar's anonymous friends, there was a moment of peace between the two, but it didn't last long:

“When Sarah came on to do a scene recently with her friend Eva La Rue, Susan never showed up on the set. While Sarah doesn’t have any ill will toward Susan, it appears Susan still is holding a grudge,” the source said.

Whether that was true or not, there is hope that any grudges that existed between the two actresses are long forgotten today. Without leaving All My Children, Sarah Michelle Gellar might not have had the chance to get her breakout role as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so there's definitely one good thing that came out of it.
