Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One topped the weekly box office, earning an estimated $259 million worldwide in its first week of release. The new movie outperformed Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Mission: Impossible 2, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96% from critics and 94% from audiences.
The seventh installment of the series has every chance of becoming the most commercially successful in the franchise, but what sum exactly does it need to surpass?

Mission: Impossible III – $399M
Director J. J. Abrams delivered a pretty standard action movie with a predictable plot and, even worse, uninspired action scenes. The main attraction of the film is Philip Seymour Hoffman as brutal arms dealer Owen Davian. With Davian becoming a worthy opponent to Hunt, the franchise finally got a great antagonist the previous movies so desperately needed.
Mission: Impossible – $457M
Viewers loved the first movie for its promising leading man — young Tom Cruise had long been begging to get a franchise of his own. In the first installment, he has the same old flair of Maverick from Top Gun, but with a more solid appearance. Compared to the following movies, Mission: Impossible has a lot less action, while the dialogues seem slightly more banal.
Mission: Impossible 2 – $549M
The idea of saving the world from a dangerous virus strain that is about to be turned into a biological weapon is potentially a good one. Only as a result, the main mission of Ethan Hunt becomes the rescue of the girl, which does not fit the idea of the smart spy movie, as the first part of the franchise positioned itself.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – $688M
After successfully restarting the franchise with the fourth movie, Tom Cruise decided to go full force and put Christopher McQuarrie in the director's chair. The story also benefited from a worthwhile addition to the Hunt squad, as Ilsa Faust, played by Rebecca Ferguson, joined the team. Also, action scenes became more thoughtful and dynamic, and stunts were crazier than ever.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – $694M
If the third part of Ethan Hunt's adventures was criticized for its similarity to the worst James Bond installments, the fourth movie was compared positively to the same Agent 007 saga, and the scene with the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is definitely one of the most exciting in the history of the franchise.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout – $786M
Without a doubt, Fallout is the best movie of the entire film series, thanks to Cruise's breathtaking stunts, Simon Pegg's trademark humor, Henry Cavill 's charisma, and the overall balance between action and storytelling. And the plot is just insane in this one: after Hunt steals weapons-grade plutonium, he becomes the target of the CIA agents seeking to destroy him as a dangerous criminal.
