We are not asking which movie is the best, just which one is the least cringeworthy?

One day, E.L. James' success story will be studied in business schools – somehow fan fiction about Twilight has become one of the most successful bestsellers of our time.

The film adaptation of the first book, Fifty Shades of Grey, did so well at the box office that even the devastating reviews did not stop two sequels from being made.

3. Fifty Shades of Grey

The first movie had a very important task – to connect the two main characters in a reasonable way. However, it turned out to be incredibly illogical. The only thing the audience could do while watching it was to make facepalm.

The movie raises dozens of questions. Why did Anastasia's friend refuse an interview with a millionaire and America's most enviable fiancé because of a slight sickness?

Why didn't Anastasia prepare for the interview? Why don't we see how a millionaire works? What does he do, where does he get his money?

These questions can be asked endlessly, but there are no answers to them. For these shortcomings, the movie can either be hated or generously forgiven as an artistic convention.

But the fact remains that the movie failed in its only and most important task.

2. Fifty Shades Freed

From the beginning, viewers are captivated by the chic wedding scene where Anastasia Steele transforms into Anastasia Grey. Then the newly-married couple spends a lazy honeymoon in France.

And after that the plot delusion begins – some maniac from the previous movie does not understand what he wants from Grey and Anastasia, creates all sorts of nonsense, to which the scriptwriters did not even bother to draw a logical conclusion.

The only thing that sets this movie apart from the first one is that Anastasia has become bolder both in her relationship with Christian and in her relationship with herself, which is undeniably a good personal growth.

1. Fifty Shades Darker

In this movie, Anastasia is most like the thoughtful main character who knows how to do more than just bite her lips. She does the right things and draws the right conclusions.

For example, she refuses to accept the services of Grey's former passion, drawing a simple but competent parallel between his relationship with his mother and his current addiction to whips and sticks.

The first movie, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, did not live up to E.L. James' fans expectations.

The new director, James Foley, took into account the shortcomings of his predecessor and increased not only the number of explicit scenes, but also the degree of their steaminess.

And when it comes to Fifty Shades, that cannot be counted as a flaw.
