All 9 Saw Movies, Ranked from Total Flop to Horror Masterpiece
Wondering if Saw X is worth watching? We can help you decide.
Time passes, but the creations of the Saw franchise continue to be released. The tenth film in the series, Saw X, will premiere on September 29.
Both the loyal fans and the newcomers have their doubts about whether it is worth watching – the movies in the franchise vary greatly in quality. Some cling to your soul, and some you want to forget immediately after watching.
To help you decide whether or not to spend money on a ticket, here are all nine movies, ranked by how worthy they are.
9. Jigsaw
While a small group of people go through a series of very primitive traps like "pull the lever to cut off your leg," the viewer is convinced that John Kramer can still be alive. But in the end it turns out that he is still dead, and this is supposed to be a twist.
The Spierig brothers' attempt to resurrect the seemingly dead franchise in 2017 was, to put it mildly, a total failure.
8. Saw 3D
The movie was supposed to be the last one, but it turned out so bad that it was decided to make one more film so that the cult franchise would not end with such a flop.
7. Saw V
Saw V is often considered the worst movie in the series. There are reasons for this – uninventive traps and pointless scenes.
But the movie has two advantages. The first one is an interesting water cube trap, and the second one is a relatively short running time – you will have to suffer only for 92 minutes.
6. Saw IV
The main drawback of this movie is that the focus has shifted from the moral choices of the main characters to blood and gore.
But it also has some good moments. For example, Jigsaw's memories of the loss of his unborn child and the cool soundtrack by the Japanese heavy metal band X Japan.
5. Saw VI
The plot of this movie is quite intriguing – Jigsaw himself punishes the criminals. He gives them a choice: amputate their own body parts or endure the pain of the skull screws.
In general, the movie is good in its own way – it has a dark and scary atmosphere and inventive traps. But there is something that kept it out of the top four: predictability and lack of original ideas.
4. Spiral: From The Book of Saw
Saw with Chris Rock wanted to seem fresh and relevant, while playing with genres and making a social commentary.
But behind these changes lies the same Saw, and not in its best shape. The reboot cannot be considered a success, but neither can it be called a total failure.
3. Saw III
The positive aspects of the movie include good direction, strong acting, and exciting plot twists. But the main drawback is too much emphasis on blood and gore. The third movie would have been in second place if the creators had spent a little less time on it.
2. Saw II
This is the case when the sequel almost surpasses the original. It has a great plot, excellent acting and a sudden ending.
Saw II also expands the universe perfectly and introduces the main maniac for the first time. We can say for sure that this is the best of the sequels.
1. Saw
The movie that came from the short film made by James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
It is a very thoughtful and dark thriller with an unpredictable ending. At the same time, it was shot in 18 days, and the actors did not even rehearse. The budget was only one million dollars, but in the end, the movie made a hundred times more.
