The Walking Dead franchise has its fair share of side projects, but their quality varies tremendously: while some are easily forgettable, others are truly WD’s hidden gems.

7. Passage

Ranking last on our list is Passage — a miniseries that’s so mini most people never even realized it existed. Following two survivors’ attempts to find their way to a refugee camp in Mexico, Passage literally lasts 15 minutes, and while its format is interesting, this screen time is obviously not enough to build a solid story.

6. Flight 462

Another 15-minute-long micro-series (yes, we just invented this term, deal with it), Flight 462 takes a more unique approach to the outbreak. Here, we watch the sheer terror and panic that captures the passengers of Flight, you guessed it, 462 as the zombie pandemic breaks out on board a flying aircraft. Forgettable…but special.

5. Dead In The Water

Dead In The Water, too, is set in a confined vehicle with no means of escape. This time, we witness the horror of a submarine crew that deals with the sudden outbreak as one of the crew members turns into a zombie. This mini-series is longer than the first two with episodes from 5 to 10 minutes, and it uses its time better.

4. World Beyond

From World Beyond and further, things start to get interesting: this show already spans two seasons, and it’s by no means a mini-series. World Beyond follows a group of teenage survivors on their way to a research facility in New York, and it builds the foundation for Rick Grimes’s spin-off by introducing corrupt and evil CRM.

3. Tales Of The Walking Dead

This anthology series does a great job of providing backstories and insights into the world. Each of the Tales’s six episodes follows a different survivor, either the one we already know or a complete stranger, and takes a creative approach to explaining their motivations or mentality shifts. This mini-series definitely deserves a watch.

2. Dead City

Dead City is a perfect spin-off series, and it brings back all the best from the original Walking Dead beautifully. We get to follow Maggie and Negan once again and watch their intense rivalry-fueled partnership on the quest to get to the Croat. We won’t spoil the final plot twist in case you’re yet to watch this show, so just know it’s great.

1. Fear The Walking Dead

The ultimate spin-off to Walking Dead, Fear would’ve worked even without the main show as it’s virtually its own masterpiece. It has a solid core team that traverses the wild post-apocalyptic landscape; drama and fierce rivalry; and unexpected plot twists. It’s basically the second Walking Dead, so if you’re a fan and have somehow missed Fear, you’re in for an amazing eight-season-long ride.
