All 7 Disney Movies Confirmed to Release In 2024
Audiences are tired of Disney's endless content, but 2024 could shake things up.
Summary
- No Disney film has grossed more than $1 billion at the box office in 2023.
- However, the company is trying to change that with seven new inventive films coming out in 2024.
- There are also seven unannounced projects that only have a planned release date.
While 2023 proved to be one of the most disastrous years in Disney's history, the coming year will see the release of a number of highly anticipated projects that may finally break Disney's curse of flops.
7. The First Omen
Release date: April 5, 2024
Similar to Universal Pictures' attempts to resurrect The Exorcist, 20th Century Studios is looking to bring attention to the cult horror franchise The Omen, 18 years after the negatively received 2006 remake. Original screenwriter David Seltzer was not involved in the project, so fans may react negatively. Well, let's see if Disney can do the impossible this time.
6. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Release date: May 24, 2024
The director of the Maze Runner trilogy, Wes Ball, has helmed a new installment in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise. The plot will focus on the young chimpanzee Noah (Owen Teague) and the human girl Mae (Freya Allan), who will fight for the future of apes and humans. Given the commercial and critical success of the previous films, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has every chance to be another hit.
5. Inside Out 2
Release date: June 14, 2024
The story will follow Riley as she faces new emotions, including Anxiety (Maya Hawke), as she enters adolescence. Many believe that the sequel has a good chance of reaching $1 billion at the global box office, making it Pixar's first truly successful project in a long time.
4. Deadpool 3
Release date: July 26, 2024
The sarcastic mercenary played by Ryan Reynolds is finally embedded in the MCU, promising to breathe new life into a rapidly dying franchise. The movie promises no shortage of meta jokes and great character crossovers, chief among them being Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, who will return to the role 6 years after Logan's release. Although Marvel fans are trying to keep their emotions in check, Deadpool 3 could very well return the MCU to its former success.
3. Alien: Romulus
Release date: August 16, 2024
Horror filmmakers Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues will now try their hand at the space horror genre, as a new iteration of the Alien franchise, set between 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens, will be released in August. Ridley Scott will serve as producer this time around. Although his last film in the universe, Alien: Covenant, underperformed at the box office, the young filmmaker's new take on the franchise could prove to be a game changer.
2. The Amateur
Release date: November 8, 2024
The plot will follow a CIA cryptographer who tries to seek justice by tracking down his wife's killers but is met with CIA inaction. The film stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Adrian Martinez and Laurence Fishburne, and given the weight of each of the stars, The Amateur could prove to be a commercial success.
1. Mufasa: The Lion King
Release date: December 20, 2024
Despite still being ridiculed for its unoriginality and questionable CGI, the 2019 remake of The Lion King was an incredible commercial success, allowing Disney to embark on a new project in the franchise that will be a prequel and tell the story of Mufasa's younger years.
