What is Resident Alien About?

A spaceship carrying an alien is sent to Earth to destroy humanity. But not everything goes according to plan: the alien crashes in the snowy mountains of Colorado, and his ship is now in no condition to complete the mission.

The alien makes it to the nearest town, where he kills a visiting doctor, Harry Vanderspeigle, and takes his appearance. While the alien scavenges the mountains for ship parts, the town's only doctor is found dead, and the townspeople ask Vanderspeigle to take his place for a while.

Harry makes an unexpected enemy – a boy named who sees Harry's true face. But the pseudo-doctor has no idea of the real threat: the secret services are looking for him all over the country.

Resident Alien is an Intricate Story with Plenty of Dark Humor

While the alien is trying to fix the spaceship, maintain the appearance of being human, and cover up the crime, the other characters are looking for mothers, murderers, prescriptions for drugs, proof of the existence of UFOs, and the meaning of life. And that might seem like too many storylines.

But the situation is saved by the general light-hearted mood and gags. Their main source are situations in which Harry tries to behave like a normal person (and fails), studies everyday life on planet Earth (through the series Law & Order and Wikipedia) or comments on people's ideas about extraterrestrial civilizations.

Alan Tudyk is Absolutely Brilliant in the Role of Harry

The main advantage of the show is Alan Tudyk in the lead role.

He looks so perfect as a fake Harry, as if the role was written especially for him. But this is not the case: Alan participated in the casting with other actors. But now it is really impossible to imagine anyone else in the role of Harry Vanderspeigle.
