Alan Ritchson's Reacher Season 3 Update Teases a Potential Storyline
The actor revealed which book in the series he loves the most and is eager to see it adapted for the show.
Summary:
- No one could have predicted the success of the Reacher TV series, which has already been renewed for a third season
- However, the decision to use the 11th book as the basis for season 2 raised some questions among fans
- The show's star, Alan Ritchson, revealed his favorite book in the series, possibly hinting that it will be the next one to be adapted
After the first attempt to bring Lee Child's Jack Reacher novel series to the big screen with two feature films starring Tom Cruise, which turned out to be rather underwhelming, fans of the original were pretty wary of any attempts to bring the character to live action.
So when it was announced that a Reacher TV series was in the works, no one really expected much, making the show's smashing success a huge surprise to many, as it did everything right that the movie did wrong.
Reacher TV Series Has Proven To Be A Near-Perfect Adaptation So Far
The first season, based on the very first book in the series, Killing Floor, proved to be a great adaptation that managed to capture the spirit of the novels, and Alan Ritchson, who portrayed Reacher in this version, was perfectly cast for the role.
With its intense story, brutal action and well-acted, charismatic characters, the show was an instant success, making it clear that its renewal for a second season was only a matter of time.
And just like that, unlike many shows that take excruciatingly long breaks between seasons, Reacher season 2 arrived less than two years later, with the first three episodes premiering on December 15, 2023.
While it raised some eyebrows by skipping an astounding nine books and being based on the 11th novel, Bad Luck and Trouble, along with a few other choices that sparked backlash from some viewers, the majority of fans seem to be loving season 2 so far.
Refreshing the story by putting Reacher in a completely new environment compared to the previous season allowed to show a different side of the character, while the story and action didn't drop in quality.
With the show being on a streak of success, it has already been renewed for a third season, leaving fans wondering which book will be used as the basis for the plot this time around, as there are many novels in the series.
Alan Ritchson Revealed His Favorite Jack Reacher Book
However, in a recent interview with the New York Post, the show's star, Alan Ritchson, may have shed some light on what fans should expect from the next season of the series.
The actor admitted that neither he nor anyone else could have expected the show to get so much love from both critics and fans in such a short time, so the number of viewers came as quite a surprise, albeit a welcome one.
He also pointed out that while it was a great decision to base the first season of the show on the first book in order to properly introduce the character to the audience, he personally doesn't see it as the greatest novel in the series.
Ritchson revealed that the second book, Die Trying, is his all-time favorite novel about the character and that he is really looking forward to seeing it adapted for the show.
As mentioned above, some fans were actually confused by the fact that season 2 is based on the 11th book and believe that Die Trying would have been a much better choice instead.
Now, however, it seems for sure that they will see its events in the show sooner or later, as given Ritchson's love for it, it might just become the basis for season 3 or some other future season if the show continues its winning streak.
Episode 4 of Reacher season 2 will be released on December 22, 2023.
