Ahsoka's Brilliant Cameo Helped the Series Avoid a Past Star Wars Mistake
Episode 7 featured a surprise appearance by an iconic Star Wars character that worked on multiple levels.
The just-released episode 7 of the Ahsoka TV series was full of great action sequences, bringing the story one step closer to its imminent conclusion.
While Ahsoka and Huyang finally found their way to another galaxy with the help of Purrgil space whales and barely managed to reach the surface of Peridea, Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger made up for the years they spent apart.
Ultimately, the group members were reunited and ready to face Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming final episode of the series.
However, the episode also featured a surprising cameo that cleverly helped the show avoid a mistake made by several Disney- era Star Wars films.
At the beginning of the episode, we see Hera Syndulla being scolded for disobeying direct orders from Chancellor Mon Mothma and several annoying senators who have caused her trouble in the previous episodes.
They are suddenly interrupted by an old acquaintance familiar to all Star Wars fans, C-3PO, who informs them that Princess Leia Organa herself has authorized Hera's mission.
The scene works very well in several ways. First of all, it confirms that other characters in the Star Wars universe are aware of the ongoing events, as it would have been strange if Leia, one of the most important people in the New Republic, didn't care about Thrawn's return.
It was also a great way to put the aforementioned arrogant senators in their place, which was very satisfying, since C-3PO basically said that Leia had more important things to do than deal with those clowns in person.
And finally, not actually showing her was a smart move considering Carrie Fisher passed away in 2016, but that didn't stop Star Wars from featuring her character.
We all remember how terrible the CGI-recreated Leia looked in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the flashback sequence from Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, so sparing fans another fake-looking CGI puppet was certainly a wise decision.
Ahsoka episode 8 will be released on October 3, 2023.
