After Hogwarts Legacy, how About an Animated Harry Potter Reboot?
J.K. Rowling's wizarding world continues to expand, and it's grown immensely over the past few years.
After the Happy Potter movies, we got Fantastic Beasts, and now there's Hogwarts Legacy — a brand new game set in the same universe, a century before the events of the main story.
The numbers speak for themselves: in its first two weeks of release, the game sold over 12 million copies and grossed over $850 million. It's safe to say that the series isn't dying anytime soon — in fact, it's currently experiencing something of a renaissance. People are still very much fond of the Wizarding World, and they want more.
We're sure to see more projects set in Rowling's universe in the near future. The real question is, what kind of projects will we get?
Many Harry Potter fans can't stand the thought of another live-action series — not only does it involve a lot of quality risks, but we also have had enough movies for now. Instead, they say, the next project should be an animated series. In a discussion on Reddit, fans shared their opinions on why this is the best possible scenario.
First of all, animation removes all limitations from the cast. Voice actors are highly skilled, and it doesn't matter how they look as long as they capture the character. Besides, animation allows everyone to be as close to the original as possible.
Second, animation is extremely healthy for the budget. You can picture anything without spending a ton of money on CGI — which makes such an approach extremely likely to pass the approval stage.
Third, an animated series would definitely appeal more to younger audiences. The Harry Potter franchise was originally intended for children and young adults, and in its current state it's more geared toward older fans who grew up with it. A new animated series could certainly help attract little wizards all over the world.
With all that in mind, there's a whole other aspect we can't forget about: as a franchise, the Wizarding World is supposed to make money, which it certainly does. But the future direction of the series depends on what will seem to be more profitable — and if one wants to influence that, one's opinion has to be voiced loudly enough.
Who knows what the future holds for the Harry Potter franchise? One thing we can be sure of is that the wizarding world is nowhere near its decline.
