After Fast X Anticlimactic Box Office, Maybe It's Time For Vin Diesel to Return to This Franchise
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the fourth film for a decade now, and it looks like they will have to wait just a little longer.
After the release of Fast X, it became clear that the seemingly indestructible franchise might be reaching its expiration date.
The latest installment in the franchise has made less money than the previous film (so far), opening to $67,017,410 in the US vs $70,043,165, received mixed reviews from critics, and even fans who gave it a much warmer reception admit that it definitely feels like a decline in quality.
Thankfully, Vin Diesel, the star and executive producer of the films, seems to understand this, as he revealed that the next film will be the finale of the main storyline, even if they intend to produce spin-offs in the future.
And perhaps with the Fast movies finally coming to an end, now is the perfect time for Diesel to return to another of his great franchises.
The films about Richard B. Riddick, a space criminal with augmented eyes that allow him to see in the dark but require him to wear goggles in other environments, began with the 2000 film Pitch Black.
It has grown into an entire franchise, including an animated short, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, and two more live-action films, the last of which, simply called Riddick, was released a decade ago in 2013.
Fans have been clamoring for more ever since, loving the main anti-hero and the world that was created in the movies, although it seems that everyone has their own favorite installment.
Some praise the first film for being more of a horror and moderately like the third, which was basically a soft remake of the original.
Others say that the way the second movie turned into a space opera was bizarre and a great improvement over the original, and were disappointed that the third movie completely ditched the whole Necromonger plot.
Still, the one thing fans agree on is that Riddick himself is great wherever he is, because it's incredibly fun that he doesn't really care about big galactic battles, prophecies, or even most of the other characters, just his own survival, which is quite refreshing compared to other "good" movie protagonists.
So there is a clear demand from the audience to wait for the next movie.
And it will most likely be released after all, as the script was completed in 2022 and the movie is currently in the early stages of production. But it seems that Vin has to finish Fast & Furious first before he can continue with the movie.
