Across the Spider Verse Villain Was Kingpin's Flunky All Along, Fan Theory Says
The last Spidey movie was split in two, ending at its most interesting moment.
Such a decision has left fans guessing about the characters' true motivations, which may be lurking in the details of the latest sequel. And one fan theory offers a whole new perspective on the story.
Redditor user473918153 suggests paying attention to the first appearance of Miguel O'Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) in the movie.
The character injects himself, and then we see how mechanical spiders attaching themselves to blood cells. It turns out that O'Hara is not a real superhero, but a self-created one.
Just like... the Prowler, who turned out to be Miles' own Uncle Aaron in the first part of the movie. Miguel's costume is based on technology instead of latex, 2099 shoots a red laser web, and there's a cape on the back.
The audience can even see claws in the film, which is very unusual for Spider-Man.
The whole fight scene on the train is O'Hara climbing up the wall with his claws or his wrist hooks. Miguel moves exactly like the Prowler, jumping up and down on walls, not even sticking to surfaces like a classic webslinger.
2099 has the same scars as the Prowler Miles who appeared at the end of the cartoon.
The Redditor notes that even the musical theme of the two characters turned out to be very similar. It may be a coincidence, but the producers of major Hollywood films are unlikely to allow such oversights when creating films.
The user feels that this was done on purpose.
The costume design of 2099 is strikingly close to Uncle Aaron's Prowler. The user is confident that this is the case, and states that such a plot twist would make a lot of sense for the story.
The Redditor mentions how Miguel talks about his past, but not how he became a superhero. The viewer believes — O'Hara was the Prowler of his universe and wanted to become Spider-Man.
However, many fans disagree. They point out 2099 was the same in the comics: he had no spider-sense, injected himself with venom, and walked around with a cape and claws.
Perhaps this connection to the Prowler is just a tease before the new part of the animated story, which may surprise even more.
