Batman Returns and The Dark Knight Rises are two iconic movies that displayed the journey of the Caped Crusader.

Although The Dark Knight Rises is considered one of the DC movies out there, there are some surprising reasons why Batman Returns might actually be better.

Several months ago, Batman's fans actually took it to Reddit to find out which of the two iconic movies is better. And contrary to what many might have thought, The Dark Knight Rises stands less chance against Batman Returns.

On a purely technical side, be it the production budget or CGI and stunts, The Dark Knight Rises clearly has the upper hand. But maybe, just maybe, it stands out only in that regard.

One of the most significant factors that make Batman Returns better is of course Tim Burton who had put his unique style in the movie that made it a "cartoonish fever dream."

The Dark Knight Rises tries to be more mature and grounded which only leads it to taking itself too serious.

Which, according to the fans, makes it somewhat lose to the over-the-top Batman Returns. Fans say they'd enjoy The Dark Knight Rises more if it had more fun.

At the same time, they say they'd like Batman Returns even more if "it toned down the crazier choices."

While both movies had an exceptional cast, Batman Returns had standout villain performances. Danny DeVito as The Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman are some of the most iconic characters in the DC Universe.

Both Tom Hardy 's Bane and Anne Hathaway 's Selina Kyle seem paler in comparison.

Another surprising reason why Batman Returns is better is that it is more connected to the Batman comics than The Dark Knight Rises.

The movie showed the complexities of the Dark Knight's character through his villains and their past.

The Dark Knight Rises, while a great movie in itself, did not go in-depth with the source material and instead focused more on the situation at hand.

Both Batman Returns and The Dark Knight Rises are exceptional movies that have a different take on Batman's character, but as the fans admit, they "both feel like Batman in their own way."

However, Batman Returns has various aspects that might it be viewed better than The Dark Knight Rises. Despite being released 29 years ago, Batman Returns still holds up as one of the most iconic movies of the DC Universe.
