As the first episode of the Supernatural prequel took off, we've finally been given more than just snippets and predictions to talk about.
Now that everyone who waited for the premier saw the pilot and got a taste of what this show is going to be like, we are ready to talk about what is really wrong with The Winchesters so far.
In the first episode, discussion thread fans are sharing their thoughts on the pilot. Though most try to stay positive and hopeful for the way this story goes, there are some things the fans couldn't stay silent about.
Fast pace
One of the most common mentions, apart from the enraging inconsistency with the storyline of Supernatural, is the fast pace of the pilot. Though it is advocated with the idea that "the showrunners are aware that the majority of those watching are SPN fans." But still, some of the moments seemed forced, for example, how fast John was dunked into the supernatural world and him not being even a little bothered by the fact that daemons exist.
Cheesy teen drama
Another thing Redditors mentioned is that the show seems "corny" and "like a cheesy teen drama," which is quite in contrast with the darker tone of the original. It makes it more appealing to the younger generation of fans but upsets those who grew up with the original Supernatural being quite horror-like scary and adult-problem-serious at times.
John and Mary
Some fans were upset with the choice of actors portraying beloved John and Mary. The complaint is that the new actors don't really resemble the actors who played the characters before. The most mentioned problem seems to be Mary's appearance: her eyebrows are "giant caterpillars," her hair color didn't look as blond, and she seems to be way shorter than before, especially in contrast with a "taller version" of John.
"Why in the hell didn't they just do a casting call […] to find two people that looked like younger Samantha Smith and Jeffery Morgan?" one very upset fan wrote.
Stiff Acting
One more thing some Redditors mentioned for the starring duo is the stiff acting. One comment even compared the stiffness with the one in the pilot of Stargate SG1 but keeping in mind that it was temporary. Overall, fandom is still hopeful since the chemistry between the new actors seems to pass everyone's check.
Though some fans were upset, there are a few bumps on The Road So Far.
