Amazon Prime might’ve made its biggest mistake.

The cancellation of A League of Their Own, produced and hosted by Amazon Prime Video, has become one of the central topics of discussion in the television industry. Not only does it show how easily studio opinions can change, but it also sets a dangerous precedent that could lead to more such cases.

The problem with this cancellation was that the studio lulled both the fans and the production team into a false sense of security by publicly announcing that the show would be renewed for season 2. Had that not been the case, the reaction would have been much more tentative. However, reversing such a decision would always cause a backlash.

While the official reasons for canceling A League of Their Own were some production issues related to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, neither viewers nor creators believe it. Will Graham, who worked on the show with Abbi Jacobson, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his support for the fans:

“But, in a time when all queer people are personally and politically under attack across the country and HRC has declared a “state of emergency,” my biggest fear is that the many queer fans of League will take this reversal as one more invalidation, one more blow, one more… effect of the general politicization of our identities,” he tweeted.

In a long thread full of extremely heartwarming statements and love for the show's audience and the community they have managed to build, Graham urged fans not to give up and to keep up the fight.

While there are no confirmed details about any ongoing negotiations, it is known that the creators of A League of Their Own are looking for a new home for the show. Whether or not that search will be successful, we'll just have to wait and see.

Be sure to keep an eye out for important news and behind-the-scenes updates on A League of Their Own's potential move to another network.
