She is even smarter than Scream’s Sidney!

Even though people are used to horror characters not being as intelligent and inventive as they could be, there are a number of protagonists that stand out for their abilities to find a way out of a deadly mess. These include, undoubtedly, Sidney Prescott from the Scream franchise, as well as the leads of 2017’s hits, Get Out and It.

Neve Campbell’s Sidney paved the way for all modern female characters of the genre, and the lead of the horror we’re going to talk about is no exception. This slasher is claimed to be a must-watch because of only her, apart from its impeccably-written plot.

The film centers on the Davisons, an extremely wealthy family whose unity was seemingly broken long ago. In an attempt to mend their family ties, they decide to celebrate their wedding anniversary and invite all four children with their partners.

While literally everything goes wrong, the celebration reaches its breaking point when the whole family falls victim to an attack of three masked assailants. It is Erin, the girlfriend of the Davisons’ son, who can confront them and pull the family together.

Played by Sharni Vinson, the female lead here demonstrates unseen survival skills and extraordinary thinking while she is fighting against the uninvited house guests. The character of Erin is the main key to the movie’s spectacularity, as it’s really captivating to watch her set traps and teach the family how to defend themselves.

The movie even starts being reminiscent of Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone ( 1990), a classic movie that follows a boy who defends his home from a home invasion. Both films blend comedy with a depiction of the lead’s imaginative ways of not giving up.

Obviously, it’s very much of a horror, and for its narration and scary parts it can be compared to other female-led flicks, including Ready or Not (2019), The Hunt (2020) and The Menu (2022). If you’re a fan of these titles, you should certainly give this film a try.

Titled You're Next, this 80%-rated movie is worth a watch, indeed.

“It's [the movie is] a good way to [introduce] people to the slasher genre, since it's just so fun that even if you hate the gore you still end up having an okay time watching,” says Redditor @tigerinvasive.
