A Controversial Way The Rings of Power Could Fix That "Cheap" Mordor Reveal
We do not necessarily recommend it to the showrunners, though... although it might be too late anyway.
Episode 7 of The Rings of Power ended with a big reveal, officially proclaiming the Southlands to be orc's new homeland — Mordor. However, fans still seem to be unable to let go of the way the show handled the cliffhanger.
In the final moments of the episode, one of the orcs asks Adar what should the new name for the Southlands be. Adar does not respond — instead, we see a text on the screen, with "the Southlands" being changed into "Mordor".
According to many fans, it was the "cheapest" way possible to deliver the reveal. However, some people — jokingly, we hope — suggested that this should be the show's signature move.
"I hope they'll reveal Sauron and the Stranger as they did with Mordor," Redditor emptyraw said.
It could, of course, be an ironic way to reveal things in The Rings of Power — although it might be too early to joke about that before we see the season 1 finale.
"Freeze frame, break the 4th wall, look directly at the audience [...] Yup that's me, Sauron, you're probably wondering how I got here," another Redditor, BrotherTraining3771, joked.
Jokes aside, the Mordor reveal did get mercilessly grilled by fans who expected the cliffhanger to be presented in any other way but not via text on screen. Some fans recalled how the first episode would do beautiful transitions between different realms through maps, but then seemingly abandoned the move.
Meanwhile, the identity of Sauron continues to be one of the show's biggest mysteries, with people taking it to a new level by jokingly offering even the most nonsensical options for a Sauron in disguise. A lot of people believe that the eighth and final episode of The Rings of Power will finally reveal Sauron, although the show might as well tease his true identity and then got everyone hooked for season 2.
The Rings of Power finale will premiere on Friday, October 14.
