A 100%-Rated Sci-fi Hit HBO Just Canceled Can Be Saved by Netflix
This time an unfairly scrapped series may in fact be picked up for good.
Summary:
- Amid all the scandalous events concerning CBS’ decisions to ditch its most successful shows, another drama has unfolded at Max that has just dropped its 100%-rated animated sci-fi show.
- Based on the 2016 short movie, the series follows a group of survivors on an alien planet that have to deal with its versatile dangers before they arrive at their spaceship crush place.
- Despite the fact that the show was recently canceled, Netflix seems to be quite interested in picking it up due to the popularity of the series’ genre.
The era of canceling successful shows with glowing reviews is gaining its momentum, and we’re not here for it. With all the drama unfolding around CBS and its brutal decisions to get rid of its best series with the highest ratings, some other networks have seemingly joined this weird trend.
It has recently been announced that Max’s brilliant and perfect-scored sci-fi animated series Scavengers Reign was canceled after the first season premiered back in October of 2023. However, the show seems to have a better perspective after being ditched by Max.
Based on HBO Max ’s short 2016 film Scavengers, the animated show follows the crew of a damaged space freighter after they crash on a beautiful, yet very dangerous planet called Vesta. Separated into three groups, the crew explores Vesta’s tricky flora and fauna while trying to make their way back to the spaceship.
Upon its release last year, Scavengers Reign got numerous accolades from both critics and viewers, eventually landing impressive scores of 100% and 94% respectively.
Though Scavengers Reign turns out to be another unlucky one to be unjustly canceled amid its triumph on Max, the things are actually not that bad for this show in particular. According to Variety, Scavengers Reign’s first season won’t leave its original platform, yet will still shift to Netflix that will reportedly consider expanding the show’s universe after Scavengers Reign arrives at the streaming.
Given Netflix’s overall tendency to welcome more and more adult animated shows, the decision will most likely not take too much time to be confirmed.
Scavengers Reign Renewal Can Still Happen
Needless to say, Scavengers Reign’s creators Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner are more than happy about such a turn of events highlighting that they’re thrilled to see their brainchild “joining the incredible animation lineup on Netflix”.
According to Bennett and Huettner, they can’t thank the streaming giant enough for letting Scavengers Reign be discovered by a bigger audience, and, frankly, this is what in fact may become a major factor for a potential renewal.
