If the FOX show goes the way of Shonda Rhimes' hit, fans will not be thrilled.

9-1-1, an American procedural television series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, is currently in its sixth season, which premiered on September 19, 2022.

The show has been around since 2018, and there are no plans to cancel it anytime soon, leading some fans to believe that it will follow in the footsteps of another popular emergency service drama series.

They begin to suspect that 9-1-1 is trying to be the next Grey's Anatomy in terms of series that last longer than ten seasons.

The aforementioned American medical drama TV series premiered on March 27, 2005 and is now in its nineteenth season and is likely to be renewed for at least one more. And it seems that 9-1-1 is aiming for the same length.

However, fans are not as optimistic as one might think. The main reason is the size of the cast. Grey's Anatomy was able to last so long because of its large cast and the frequency with which viewers were introduced to new characters.

When a character left the show, there was always a replacement to step into the spotlight and continue the story. When a show runs for more than ten seasons, it is inevitable that some actors will leave for various reasons.

And with only seven characters that can be considered main characters, 9-1-1 doesn't stand a chance because there has never been a move to make a recurring character a main character or vice versa.

If one of the main characters is gone, it will have a major effect on the plot, and not in a good way, leaving a gaping hole in the characters' relationships.

The other reason is surprisingly simple: the fans just don't want it. When the aforementioned situation with actors leaving the show happens, it usually results in their character being killed off.

"I wouldn't mind longer seasons but I just don't want anyone to get killed off! Its been 6 seasons already, that gave us so much time to like each and every character so it being dragged out its really gonna hurt if someone dies!"

9-1-1 season 6 episode 12 premiered on March 20, 2023.
