Sorry, Penny and Leonard, but there’s no way you could beat them.

Even though there was no shortage of couples throughout The Big Bang Theory ’s 12-season-long run, only three of them actually made it until the very end of the show. Penny ended up with Leonard, Howard with Bernadette, and Sheldon with Amy. And, although all of them are great in their own right, only one of these couples had to put a lot of work into it.

Here are 8 best moments of Sheldon and Amy’s love story, which prove that everyone can find love, if they truly wish for it.

The DnD Game

Though it's not the most common way to express interest in intimacy, both Sheldon and Amy are simply trying their best to understand each other, even if it's in the form of a game. Amy has had to wait a long time for Sheldon to come out of his shell and explore the range of human emotions, and he has repaid her by being as brave as he can be.

While others in a gang may never have believed they could work out their differences and become a real couple, Amy and Sheldon have shown that anything is possible if there is at least one spark.

The Emergency Contact Revelation

It's never too easy to guess how Sheldon feels about something or someone, because he doesn't usually express his feelings in words. He does, however, express them through actions and a lot of paperwork, which we have already seen with various contracts he has with people around him.

However, his naming Amy as his emergency contact was the ultimate show of trust he has in her. And it ended up being the best Valentine's gift possible, which just goes to show how well they fit together.

The Relationship Paradigm Alteration

Both Amy and Sheldon were new to the dating game, and it took time for both of them to understand the rules of the game. However, once Sheldon grasped the meaning of a relationship, he was quick to let his possessive side come out and set boundaries that could only mean one thing: he and Amy were exclusive.

And while at the time this in no way affected their physical interactions or romantic feelings between them, in reality, it was a huge step to show that Sheldon was ready for a gradual change. Something that doesn't happen too often with him.

The Princess Transformation

Every girl wants to feel like a princess, especially Amy, who definitely didn't get many chances to be one in her boring and controlling childhood. Sheldon may not always be the best boyfriend, but there is something very precious about him picking out a tiara for Amy.

And, of course, Amy's reaction to it is absolutely priceless. No matter how many trials and tribulations the couple has been through, the warm hug Amy gives Sheldon to show her gratitude speaks louder than any words.

The Fear of Rejection

Even though it's not a happy moment, it's still deeply romantic. Sheldon and Amy, who have been through a breakup, may see their next steps differently, but both of their decisions come from a place of love and deep feelings they have for each other.

When Amy suggests they get back together because she misses Sheldon and knows they belong together, Sheldon rejects her proposal. Not because he's so opposed to the idea, but because the thought of losing her again makes him too weak to handle it. Talk about real romance!

The Very First Sickness

If there's one thing no one expected from Sheldon, it's that he'd actually care for someone, even if he's reluctant to do so at first. With his phobia of germs, agreeing to take care of Amy while she's sick was an act of heroism on his part, not to mention how much he's grown into his role of a caregiver.

Also, this is the episode where Sheldon finally makes all of Amy's deepest darkest desires come true, even though he was unaware of it.

The Cross-Country Proposal

One of the biggest steps Sheldon could have taken to show how serious he was about Amy was to propose. And even though it was technically triggered by the unwarranted kiss, he flew across the country just to knock on Amy's door and greet her on one knee with a ring in a small box in front of him.

Call Sheldon pragmatic all you want, but that was easily one of The Big Bang Theory's most romantic moments, and he acted like a novel hero.

The Prom Night Confession

Given how important to Amy every single moment she ever missed as a teenager is, hearing Sheldon's confession on prom night, of all the nights they spent together, must have been truly magical. And even though he was never one for words, the ones he said to her to declare his love were absolutely wonderful.

Amy and Sheldon may not be the most conventional couple, and their relationship may not be for everyone, but their love for each other is genuine, and their relationship is beautiful nevertheless.
