7 Worst Harry Potter Ships That Reddit Wishes Would Disapparate Forever
One of the most enjoyable aspects of a beloved universe like the Wizarding World is seeing characters falling in love.
Fans have their favourites, those they want to see get together. And the reverse is also true. If you check out Reddit, you will see that some romantic pairings in the Harry Potter tales left fans scratching their heads, screaming in frustration, or even feeling downright ill.
Here are the seven worst ships, according to Potterheads on Reddit.
One: Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy
At first glance, these two seem perfectly matched, right down to their matching silvery hair. But as the films unfolded, fans noticed that Draco's parents could not be a worse fit for each other. Lucius is a devoted servant of Voldemort and will stop at nothing to serve his Dark Lord, even if that includes putting his only son in mortal danger. Narcissa, on the hand, is swiftly revealed to be an unwilling participant in Voldemort's army, at the mercy of her husband and sister, Bellatrix. Thankfully, Narcissa finds her bravery just in time to save the day by lying to the Dark Lord about Harry's death, allowing the hero to vanquish the villain. But one thing is for sure, Lucius and Narcissa are totally wrong for each other.
Two: Hermione Granger and Viktor Krum
This pairing in Goblet of Fire had fans confused, and even annoyed. Hermione is possibly the most intelligent character in the entire series, with smarts that could even rival Dumbledore's wisdom. When Reddit users spotted her on the arm of a grunting, near neanderthal Viktor Krum at the Yule Ball, they were more than slightly opposed to the couple. Even Hermione herself admits they do not speak. Fortunately, this coupling was short-lived.
Three: Harry Potter and Cho Chang
Fans were initially excited by this idea. They loved the cute exchange between Harry and Cho in the owlery at Hogwarts and felt his pain when she confessed she had already secured a date for the Yule Ball. Hope was not lost, however, as it only took a couple more movies for the pair to share their first kiss.
Voldemort's Greatest Power Actually Had Nothing to Do With Magic
But there is where it all fell down. Cho was still mourning Cedric, and bawling her eyes out when she kissed Harry. Hardly romantic. And then there was Cho's "betrayal" which ultimately led to the swift end of what could have been a romance. Potterheads have pointed out the weakness here though. Cho's betrayal was not her fault and Harry's cold shoulder act toward her was nothing short of cruel. In short, fans feel this mini-relationship was simply lazy writing and a waste of everyone's time.
Four: Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown
And cue the vomit. This one had fans equally laughing at how ridiculous it was and wanting to cover their eyes and ears at how disgusting it was. Lavender's dreaded cries of "Won-Won" were revolting and far beyond any normal teenage infatuation. Sure, her actions were the result of a love potion, but that did not make it any less sickening or difficult to watch.
Five: Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley
This one seemed to come out of nowhere. Fans last saw Fleur participating in the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Then suddenly a few films later she reappears, apparently madly in love with and engaged to Ron's older brother, Bill. While this did stick to the books, the failure to explain any of this in the films had fans wondering how it all came about. Unhelpfully, no further information was given and fans were just supposed to accept that somehow, offscreen, these two characters developed a meaningful bond and ended up happily married.
Six: Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin
Tonks and Lupin together was another Wizarding World romance that surprised fans. Again, it was true to the books, but Potterheads had no knowledge of the characters ever even meeting each other, and boom they were a couple. The age difference had many fans on Reddit shaking their heads, feeling it was just inappropriate to portray that kind of relationship in what is, largely, a universe aimed at children. Then there is the whole werewolf thing that Lupin has to deal with. It felt off, it felt odd, and fans were not happy.
Seven: Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange
Last but definitely not least, the most hideous ship of them all according to fans. The unholy union between the main villain himself, Voldemort and his lackey Bellatrix Lestrange. This isn't just a creepy pairing. It is also horribly one-sided, vicious, and cruel. Bellatrix is so utterly devoted to and in love with her Dark Lord that she is blinded by the fact that he feels nothing for her. She is merely a tool in his army. Expendable and meaningless. Fans believe that the coupling is so skewed, that from Voldemort's view, the two are not even in a relationship. While Leatrange believes herself to be his favourite, his one true love. Sadistic, nausea-inducing, and terrifying would be the only words for this ship.
