7 New Crime Shows of 2023 to Watch on Prime in December
Deck the Halls with boughs of holly – and settle in for a decent crime show.
Amidst all the holiday cheer, it's always nice to keep a bit of normalcy in your life. And what could be more normal than getting caught up in a crime show?
Here are seven new crime shows now streaming on Prime:
1. NCIS: Sydney
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 63%
You know the premise. NCIS is a brand in its own right, and this show takes it down under.
International relations are tense in the Indo-Pacific region and something has to be done about the threat of piracy. As part of the solution, a joint task force of US NCIS agents and Australian police officers is formed.
Of course, it's not all plain sailing. But there's a job to be done and a common enemy to defeat.
2. Found
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 70%
Everyone knows that the list of missing people in the US is huge. And this fictional crime show tackles the problem of them falling off the radar of the police and the mainstream media.
Gabi Mosely, once a kidnap victim herself, has put together a team of people determined to track down all those missing people who have been forgotten. Everyone on her team has been kidnapped or has (or had) a missing loved one.
But they're not working alone. Gabi's former kidnapper helps the team understand how a kidnapper's mind works. He has to. Gabi has him locked up in her basement.
3. Payback
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 71%
Lexie Noble lives a normal life in Edinburgh. But when her husband, Jared, is attacked in the street, things take a turn she couldn't have seen coming.
Soon she finds herself caught up in a police operation to bring down a local crime boss. She wasn't built for this life. But survival is the name of the game, and she must adapt.
4. Justified: City Primeval
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91%
This show is splitting opinion. The Rotten Tomatoes website rates it at 91%, while the average audience score is only 45%. So why not judge for yourself?
The next installment of the Justified neo-western series sees Raylan Givens now working in Miami. He's still a US Marshal and also takes care of his teenage daughter. But he ends up in Detroit to help the local police track down the violent Oklahoma Wildman.
5. Deadloch
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%
This black comedy mystery follows two female detectives as they try to find out why the body of a local man has washed up on the shore. The pair have very different styles of policing and are not the most compatible partners.
But as their investigation continues, they start to unravel a web of secrets that threatens the lives of all residents of Deadloch.
6. Steeltown Murders
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 78%
Based on the real-life case of the Saturday Night Strangler, this four-part drama focuses on how modern technology helped detectives investigate a cold case from 1973.
Phillip Glenister stars and the story is handled sensitively. If you like a true crime drama, this is right up your alley.
7. Will Trent
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 89%
This is the first season of a police procedural that has been renewed for 2024. The eponymous character is a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Abandoned as a child and brought up in the foster system, Trent is motivated by a desire to make sure no other child has to endure what he went through.
A man of logic and reason, he has a high success rate. But he's not popular with some of the officials after he exposes corruption in the ranks.
