It's been 16 long months since the season 1 finale of House of the Dragon. And we still have over half a year before season 2 airs. In the meantime, here are 7 lesser-known fantasy shows currently streaming on Netflix that you might want to try out.

Ok, so Rotten Tomatoes doesn't paint this show in the best light. But with just 6 episodes to watch, it can't hurt to give it a go. It won several Emmys for daytime TV but sits somewhere between an adults' show and a kids' show but has a decent plot.

It's essentially a bildungsroman based on the 1962 Dutch novel 'De brief voor de Koning' by Tonke Dragt, that sees Tiuri, a young knight on a quest to deliver a letter to the king.

1 Season, 20 Episodes

One of the top-ranked Taiwanese shows of 2020-21, the Devil Punisher fuses elements of supernatural and time travel.

Zhong Kui is a reincarnated deity who has taken on a daytime persona as a baker but heads out to fight demons at night. He's in love with Lady Meng – only she has amnesia and can't recall their romance.

5. Always a Witch

2 Seasons, 18 Episodes

This Colombian fantasy show sees a 17th century witch ordered to be burned at the stake. To escape her fate, she makes a deal with a wizard who agrees to transport her to 2019 but warns her she can't use magic in the future.

This show received mixed reviews, with some praising the strong, black female lead and others critical of its depiction of a slave/enslaver love story.

4. The Bureau of Magical Things

2 Seasons, 40 Episodes

In this Australian fantasy drama, the human and magic worlds – which have coexisted for many years – face a problem. Human tech is believed to upset the balance and there are now threats of extinction to some magic species.

The Bureau must investigate the matter and find a solution that restores peace and harmony.

3. Tidelands

If you like a mix of fantasy, intrigue, corruption and crime drama, this show is for you. Charlotte Best (Home & Away) stars as Cal McTeer who is released from prison after allegedly committing murder as a teenager.

When she uncovers the Tidelanders, a dangerous species born of sexual relations between fishermen and sirens, it exposes a whole heap of drama going on in and around her hometown.

A supernatural detective show, Lockwood & Co. is set in alternative Britain of the modern era which is unrecognisable from what we know. For the past 50 years, deadly ghosts have been leaving their graves and killing people.

These ghosts can't be seen or sensed by adults, so teenagers have been charged with hunting them down. Lucy Carlyle was forced to leave her hometown up north after a fatal error while working for an agency looking for ghosts. In London, she joins a small agency called Lockwood & Co.

A fantasy-horror with a perfect critic's score on Rotten Tomatoes.

College student Jack Morton joins the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, a secret magical society. He soon learns some dark family secrets and finds himself caught up in a war between dark magic and werewolves.

It's one of those shows that has plenty going on and really hooks you in. If you love a fantasy binge, The Order is ideal.
