Country star; philanthropist; Christmas movie star. Dolly Parton does it all.

Everyone loves Dolly Parton, right? And everyone loves Christmas. So, put the two together and it’s sure to be a treat.

Here are 7 Christmas movies starring Dolly Parton that you can stream right now:

1. Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas (2022)

Stream on: Peacock, Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV

This TV movie sees the county music legend playing a version of herself around the holiday season. Other country music stars also appear in a film that is all about spreading the ‘mountain magic’ and embracing the festivities.

Dolly takes a look at past Christmases, accompanied by three wise men in a story clearly influenced by A Christmas Carol and the nativity story but remains authentically Tennessee.

2. A Smoky Mountain Christmas (1986)

Stream on: Vudu, Prime, ITVX

Dolly plays Lorna Davis, a fictional celebrity who escapes LA and heads to the Smoky Mountains for the holidays. When she arrives at her log cabin, she finds it’s already home to seven children who have run away from a nearby orphanage.

With both Lorna and the children keen to keep their whereabouts a secret, they make a pact to stay schtum. But Lorna has been followed to her holiday hideaway by a paparazzo with no scruples. Although, he may just be the least of her worries as a mountain witch-woman is out to kill her.

Stream on: Vudu, Prime

Desiree Ross plays a young chorister who dreams of being a country music star. While Grace’s mum is hesitant about her daughter choosing a career in the music industry, her choir teacher supports her ambitions.

Encouraged to apply for a singing competition at Dollywood, Grace goes for it and is inspired by the one and only Dolly Parton. The movie tackles issues such as racism and complicated families but remains a Christmas film at heart.

4. Christmas at Dollywood (2019)

Stream on: Prime, iTunes, Google Play, Vudu

Ok, this may not be the most innovative film. But let’s face it, sometimes you just want a movie that’s a warm hug and just delivers the expected. As a Hallmark movie, you won’t be surprised to discover it’s a story of two people who find love despite being initially wary of each other.

Once again, Dolly plays herself and, as the title suggests, the film is set in Dollywood. An events planner living and working in the Big Apple returns to her hometown to celebrate the holidays and ends up working on the 13th anniversary Christmas event – where she eventually finds love.

5. Unlikely Angel (1996)

Stream on: Prime, YouTube, Apple, PLEX, Google Play

This straight-to-TV movie has Dolly playing fictional country music star Ruby Diamond. And right off the bat, she dies in a car accident. Ouch! But her story doesn’t end there.

Ruby is told she’ll need to earn her angel wings by returning to earth and bringing a family back together for Christmas. It's a heartwarming tale that sees Ruby reunite two children with their father who has somewhat neglected them in favour of other priorities.

6. Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square (2020)

Stream on: Netflix

Voted 2021s Outstanding Television Movie at the Emmys, this musical number is the quintessential Christmas movie. A rich landowner, played by Christine Baranski, returns to her hometown determined to evict her tenants and sell the land for development.

But they’re having none of it. And with a bit of festive magic and a trip down memory lane, they try to put a stop to her plan.

7. Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (2016)

Stream on: Prime, Google Play, Vudu

The sequel to Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors, this movie sees Christmas through the eyes of a young Dolly Parton. It’s a wholesome movie that is based on Dolly’s upbringing and gets to the heart of what a true family Christmas is all about.

It also acknowledges two key figures in Dolly’s life; the uncle who encouraged her to pursue her dreams and the ‘town tramp’ who inspired her style.
