6 Spider-Man Trilogy Scenes When Sam Raimi Couldn't Help Being a Horror Director
You didn't expect to see these kinds of scenes in a superhero movie.
Sam Raimi originally got his start in the horror genre. So it's no surprise some horror elements made their way into his Spider-Man trilogy.
What is surprising is that those horror elements actually look natural and only add to the originality of the films.
Let's remember those moments from Raimi's trilogy that had us jumping out of our seats.
Peter's transformation
In the scene when Peter gets back home after being bitten by the radioactive spider, we see his transformation accompanied by a few jump scares, featuring a skull flying right at the camera.
Green Goblin's awakening
Willem Dafoe is a great actor, no doubt, but sometimes his facial expression can be downright terrifying. The scene when he inhales the goblin gas and then wakes up, followed by a sudden sound, feels like something straight out of a horror movie.
Osborn's memory
In the scene when Harry finds his father on the floor, Norman tries to piece together what went down last night. And out of the blue, we get this quick, sudden flashback which is basically a jump scare.
Octavius goes bonkers
In Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octavius ends up in the hospital after his failed experiment. When he wakes up, he kills all the doctors with his sentient tentacles while they are all screaming.
If it wasn't a movie about Spidey, one could think it was a horror movie about an octopus maniac.
Octavius scares Harry (and us)
In one of the scenes, Doc Ock pays Harry Osborn a visit, but he doesn't just ring the doorbell like a normal person.
Nope, he scales the building using his tentacles. We only realize it when Harry gets close to the balcony's edge and, out of nowhere, one of Octavius' tentacles lunges at him, scaring to death both Harry and viewers.
Terrifying symbiote
In Spider-Man 3, when Peter is just sleeping on his bed with his suit still on, the sneaky symbiote decides it's the perfect moment to strike.
The whole sequence is like something out of a horror, with the symbiote creeping towards Parker and some first-person shots from its perspective. It's enough to give you the creeps.
