6 Hidden Details And References In TWD: Dead City You Might Have Missed In E1
Time to uncover the hidden secrets of the premiere episode.
The Walking Dead: Dead City finally dropped the first episode on Sunday, and there are some sneaky hidden details and references tucked away.
Let’s break them down.
Groaners
On The Walking Dead, they have all these different names for zombies, except for actually calling them zombies.
In the beginning of the episode, Maggie rolls up to a motel and heads to the bar to chat up the bartender for some information on Negan. To blend in with the locals, Maggie says that her cabin was overrun by "groaners," because that's what they call walkers around there.
The notorious Negan
In the episode, we find out that Negan is wanted by the marshals of New Babylon. When they arrive at the bar, one of the marshals tells the locals about Negan’s past. He mentions that Negan once lined up a group of unarmed people and bashed a man’s head with a baseball bat.
This is a clear reference to the first episode of season 7, when Negan killed Glenn.
Hanged walkers
While Maggie and Negan are driving to their destination, they come across a couple of hanged walkers. Maggie stops for a second to look at them, probably because it reminded her of when she had to deal with Gregory's betrayal and had him hanged for trying to off her.
Hilltop
When Maggie agrees to take Ginny (the girl who was with Negan) to Hilltop, she mentions that they had to reallocate, reminding Negan that it’s partially his merit.
That is a reference to the original show’s season 9, when Negan infiltrated The Whisperers and had to participate in the burning of Hilltop.
Dale’s RV
When Maggie and Negan are set to hop on a boat and make their getaway, the marshals suddenly arrive. In one of the scenes during this sequence, you can spot an RV that'll give you major nostalgia vibes as it looks a lot like Dale’s RV from the two first seasons of The Walking Dead.
Andrew Lincoln
Once the duo finally makes it to the island, as they're strolling along, you can see a sign on the wall that reads “Dawn Lincoln center come kill with us.”
This might be a sly reference to Andrew Lincoln, who portrayed Rick Grimes in the original show and will soon have his own spinoff (The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne).
