6 Animated Characters That Were Based On Celebrities

Sometimes even the wildest and most unrealistic animated characters are based on real people.

Edna Mode from The Incredibles

Not everyone knows who inspired Edna Mode, but behind the image of a brunette with round glasses hides Edith Head, a 35-time Oscar nominee and eight-time winner, a record among women, who is unknown to the general public only because she was not an actress but a Hollywood costume designer.

Edith was undoubtedly a legendary personality, which allowed her to behave rather brashly in the presence of Hollywood stars.

This trait of her character was successfully parodied in The Incredibles.

Scar from The Lion King

In 1994, Jeremy Irons provided the voice for Scar.

As work continued on the creation of the animated movie The Lion King, gestures and mannerisms were also taken from the famous actor.

Thus, thanks to the joint efforts, the character turned out to be much like Jeremy.

Ariel from The Little Mermaid

Ariel is based on the main character of the short story The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, with many personality changes.

However, Ariel's appearance was based on several people, including the animator's wife, whose movements were copied for the animation, but all the other aspects were taken from Alyssa Milano, who was 16 years old at the time.

The Vultures from The Jungle Book

The creators of The Jungle Book were very ambitious when they decided to have the legendary The Beatles voice the vultures.

This never happened because John Lennon refused to participate in the dubbing. But that did not stop the animators from making the vultures look like John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Not only do the vultures look like famous musicians, but they also speak with Liverpool accent.

Genie from Aladdin

The character of Genie in the 1992 animation Aladdin was tailor-made for Robin Williams to voice.

What's even more surprising about this character is that many of his lines were improvised.

For some scenes, the actor was given themes or dialogue suggestions, but many scenes were just ad-libbed.

As a result, there is a lot of Robin Williams' personality and humor in Genie.

Ursula from The Little Mermaid

When The Little Mermaid premiered, the viewers noticed that Ursula looked like the American singer Divine.

As it turned out, that's what the animators wanted.

The creators also considered having the performer voice Ursula, but unfortunately he passed away before he was offered the role.
