5 Worst TV Show Finales Ever, Ranked
Even the greatest series can struggle with putting together a satisfactory finale — but these five shows managed to straight-up ruin everything the fans had loved them for.
Look, we all understand that for a big show, it's immensely hard to come up with a finale that would make all the fans happy.
There are different people in the audience, and they want different endings, so we're totally not here to be too harsh on writers.
At least, we're not going to tackle the writers who satisfied at least some of their series' fans. The guys behind these five shows, however, are a whole different story: they somehow managed to upset everyone and ruin everything. No love for them.
5. The 100
The final season of The 100 decidedly trashed every single thing the fans loved the show for. First, they killed off the most beloved pairing by making one of them kill the other.
Second, they randomly introduced caricature aliens that were judging everyone's morality — and the protagonist was deemed unworthy after the entire series' worth of trying to save others. Yes, they totally ruined the show.
We know you expected to see GoT on the list and you were correct. Of course, it would be here after the mess of an anticlimactic ending we got in season 8.
The writers made the fan favorite go insane and commit genocide, then killed her off; they had the local Death Lord defeated by a girl with a knife; and they utterly butchered every other character and storyline…
All this in the most rushed fashion.
HIMYM didn't kill a bunch of beloved characters like GoT did: it killed the viewers' souls and time instead.
After a whole series of explaining why the protagonist and his friend were not made for each other, after finally revealing the adorable and instantly loveable Mother everyone's been waiting for nine seasons…
They just threw in a "Mother died, he's back with his friend again." That was a violation!
2. Seinfeld
Seinfeld was extremely popular for a good reason: it was more of moral escapism than an actual show. The characters have been terrible people for nine seasons, and that was the fun of the show.
And suddenly, at the very end, Seinfeld the series says, "You know what? They are bad people, and we're throwing them in jail!" We knew they were bad. That's the entire point of this series. This is your finale, really? Duh.
1. Dexter
The absolute king of underdelivering, Dexter: the show about a serial killer that's been building up tension since the first episode. How could it possibly end? Perhaps, with the killer finally paying for his crimes?
Maybe, with him going through catharsis and changing? What about some unexpected plot twist? Well, no. The finale is as hollow as it gets: the killer is just living a quiet life as a lumberjack. No explanation.
