Sorry, Grey's Anatomy, you're not on the list.

If your only experience with musical episodes on TV shows comes from Grey's Anatomy and Glee, which as a whole were one big musical fever dream, you may not appreciate them as much.

Done wrong, such episodes can be extremely cringe-worthy to watch, and some even claim that they ruin the whole show experience for them.

However, there are a few shows that have tried to make the musical genre work for them and have succeeded. There are not many, but any one of them could easily change your mind and convince you to give musicals another chance.

The Magicians – All That Josh (S3E9)

Although the show had quite a few musical episodes, there was only one that stole viewers' hearts.

To this day, there are many fans who have The Magicians' version of the iconic Queen & David Bowie's hit Under Pressure living in their heads rent-free.

Scrubs – My Musical (S6E6)

Perhaps, Grey's Anatomy never stood a chance in the musical genre just because it was already perfectly done in a medical setting by the sitcom Scrubs, back in 2007.

The show that never took itself too seriously nailed not only the singing part but the whole two-act theatrical structure as well.

Community – Regional Holiday Music (S3E10)

You know the music will be good when one of the characters has built an internationally successful singing career separately from the acting.

Besides, the episode hilariously captures the most oblivious parts of Glee, making a perfect parody of the show.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Once More With Feeling (S6E7)

You wouldn't think that the show about actual fighting against evil forces has a place for the musical episode, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer proves otherwise by making the music part of the plot.

At the end of the episode fans were left to wish Buffy never fought the demon that made everyone randomly break into songs, so the music could stay longer.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia – The Nightman Cometh (S4E13)

This episode grabs your attention not only because of the plot but also because of the style of music the writers have chosen.

The Nightman Cometh is a beautiful rock opera tribute to Charlie Kelly. The episode was so good that it was adapted into a short-lived stage musical.
