5 TV and Movie Moments So Out Of Charaсter They Pissed Everyone Off
They came completely out of the blue…
Consistency in character development is one of the most important elements of a successful TV show or movie. But sometimes writers and directors decide to take characters in directions that have nothing to do with how they normally behave.
Here are 5 of the most infamous TV and movie moments that pissed everyone off because of the characters' weird actions.
1. Rachel Giving Up On Her Dream Job For Ross (Friends)
Over the course of the show, Rachel grew from a spoiled child to an independent woman. Seeing her give up her dream job to be with Ross was a massive glow down and a disappointing plot twist. Many fans who had invested in Rachel's growth and independence throughout the series felt it was out of character for her, who was always depicted as ambitious and career-oriented.
2. Luke Skywalker Willingness To Kill Ben (The Last Jedi)
In The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker's revelation that he considered killing his nephew Ben Solo shows a significant departure from his previous character's actions, including his willingness to show mercy to his father, Darth Vader. Actor Mark Hamill openly criticized this portrayal, going so far as to differentiate himself by referring to the character as "Jake Skywalker."
3. Sam Didn't Even Try Getting Dean Out of Purgatory (Supernatural )
When Season 7 gave us another cliffhanger with Dean and Cass stuck in purgatory, there was no doubt that they would find their way back, but somehow we believed that Dean's little brother would do his part, as he always did. It was highly inconsistent and disappointing to see Sam seemingly indifferent to Dean's disappearance, living his life with a new girlfriend and her dog.
4. Blair Getting Together With Dan (Gossip Girl)
The sudden development of a romantic relationship between Blair and Dan is one of the weirdest plot twists of the show. The characters had a long history of hatred and conflict throughout the show, so it came as a complete surprise when they started dating out of nowhere. The decision seemed completely out of character for both of them and left us wondering why the hell it happened in the first place.
5. Andy Gets A Different Personality (The Office )
Andy's sudden change in behavior after returning from his sailing trip was frustrating and felt inconsistent with how he'd developed. Fans were disappointed by the abrupt change in Andy's personality and wished for a more satisfying explanation that was in line with his established character arc. It seemed like a missed opportunity to develop a great replacement for beloved Michael Scott.
