Those bad guys had us seriously on edge.

In The Walking Dead, the walkers were a big threat only at first, but later on, the real craziness came from those people who totally lost their humanity and went absolutely nuts in their quest for survival.

We are going to remember those antagonists who were certainly way scarier than the walkers.

5. Shane Walsh

Love him or hate him, Shane (played by the talented Jon Bernthal) certainly left a lasting impression. He started out as Rick's loyal friend but gradually descended into darkness.

Shane's struggle with his emotions and his obsession with Lori quickly made him an absolute savage. While he may not be as terrifying as some of the other antagonists, his impact cannot be denied.

4. Gareth (Terminus)

Remember Terminus, the infamous sanctuary that turned out to be anything but?

Gareth was the twisted leader of this cannibalistic group. The calm and collected manner in which he operated made him all the more eerie. Gareth and his group proved that the post-apocalyptic world had its fair share of human monsters.

3. Alpha & Beta (The Whisperers)

This duo takes villainy to a whole new level. Alpha and Beta were brought to life in an eerie and terrifying way.

The Whisperers wear the skin of walkers and live among them, creating a sense of fear and unpredictability. Alpha, the cunning and manipulative leader, and Beta, the hulking enforcer, form a formidable pair that will stop at nothing to maintain control.

2. The Governor

David Morrissey's portrayal of the Governor is unforgettable. As the leader of Woodbury, he maintained a facade of order while harboring dark secrets.

The Governor's ruthlessness and manipulation made him a formidable adversary for Rick and his group. His actions, including attacking the prison, killing Hershel, and many other terrible things solidified his place as one of the show's most iconic villains of TWD.

1. Negan

And finally, the undisputed king of the Walking Dead antagonists: Negan (portrayed flawlessly by Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

With his wire-wrapped baseball bat, Lucille, Negan brought fear and chaos wherever he went. Even though he eventually turned into a somewhat good guy, his sadistic charm and penchant for brutal punishment made him one of the most memorable villains in the show's history.
