From the premiere of the first three episodes, The Buccaneers received very mixed reviews from audiences. While some found all the changes and instant modernization an insult to Edith Wharton's original novel, others enjoyed the breath of fresh air the show brought to the period drama genre.

Now that the show is officially renewed for season 2 on Apple Plus TV, fans are already thinking about what it may bring. Here are 5 predictions made by Redditors on r/TheBuccaneers (that don’t strongly follow the book).

Nan and Guy’s Secret Affair

Believe it or not, people tend not to think that Nan and Guy will end up together, even though she married Theo at the end of the first season. As tired as the fandom generally is of this love triangle, many believe that the show will continue to milk it for season 2, just because the storyline wasn't resolved.

Honoria’s Engagement

Unfortunately, there is no way a queer arc can end happily in any sort of period drama. There will be more stomach-turning drama for Mabel and Honoria, and some people think it will have to do with the fact that Honoria will have to get engaged to a man, too, whether she wants to or not.

Jinny Will Fall For Guy

After so much trauma from Seadown, Jinny is very likely to fall in love with any guy who's nice to her. And Guy is just such a gentleman. Even though he's in love with Nan, Jinny will develop one-sided feelings and end up being part of another love triangle, even though this one would be even more predictable.

Seadown and Jinny’s Reconnection

Pretty much no one wants sweet Jinny and her abuser Seadown to get back together, considering how horrible he was to her, but it's expected that he'll find out where she lives and try to get her back. After all, Seadown is not a man to back down easily, especially considering his powers and connections.

Nan’s Biological Mother

It is safe to assume that Nan's biological mother will play a major role in season 2, so that Nan can finally find inner peace. However, it's hard to imagine her forgiving her mother so soon, considering all the hardships she's gone through, partly thanks to her. So get ready for more family-centered drama.
