5 Quality Sci-Fi Shows Canceled After Season 1 Reddit Refuses to Forget
Some wounds just never heal.
You know what the most important thing about a good TV show is? The ability to watch it from start to finish. And that doesn't always happen – just ask fans of The Santa Clarita Diet, The Great, or The OA.
Sci-fi fans on Reddit have compiled their list of shows that were killed off too soon.
1.Firefly, 2002
In 2002, one of the biggest cancellations in television history occurred: Fox canceled Joss Whedon's Firefly. It's hard to describe the shock and anger of the fan community.
The fans of the series tried to contact the network executives who had made such an awful decision with all the means at their disposal: petitions, letters, phone calls, and pickets at the studio doors.
It's no wonder that more than twenty years later, Firefly remains the biggest wound in the hearts of sci-fi fans.
2. Almost Human, 2013-2014
One of the best series about robots, Almost Human, aired on Fox for only one season. The action takes place in the year 2048, when technological progress has already gone beyond human control, and the Los Angeles Police Department cannot cope without the help of robocops.
But Detective John Kennex hates them. A few years ago, the android failed to save his partner because the program gave the task a low priority. Kennex himself spent months in a coma. When he returns to work, he is forced to accept an old model android as his partner – with a synthetic soul, a bug that allows him to recognize emotions.
3. Space: Above and Beyond, 1995-1996
Created by The X-Files writers, the show explores the first contact – and first war – between humans and aliens. This project is not filled with a big number of alien life forms, but at the center of the plot are ordinary people who control military spaceships.
The main source of inspiration for Above and Beyond was not science fiction, but war dramas – and the focus here is not on battle scenes, but on the development of characters and the moral dilemmas of war.
And it was in Above and Beyond that the concept of artificially modified super-soldiers, which would later form the basis of Halo, was explored.
4. Terra Nova, 2011
Dinosaurs, time travel and the great Stephen Spielberg as producer – what could be better? The ambitious project Terra Nova promised to be the most spectacular series of its generation and set a new standard of quality for years to come. Instead, it was canceled after the first season due to low ratings and high production costs.
The plot revolves around the inhabitants of the overpopulated Earth in the year 2145, who decide to escape into the past, to the time of the dinosaurs, in order to "restart" civilization and steer its development along a more correct and less destructive path for nature.
5. 1899, 2022
The creators of Netflix 's smash hit Dark haven't been idle since finishing their twisted sci-fi time travel epic, and returned with a new project.
A group of European migrants set sail from London to New York in search of a better life, but their journey across the Atlantic is interrupted by an unexpected signal from a recently sunk ship. The crew finds a ship, but something strange begins to happen to them.
The creators planned to release three seasons like they did with Dark, but like many Netflix projects, 1899 was canceled after the first season.
