In the wake of Lionsgate’s plans to make the fifth installment of the beloved action franchise, we have to make one thing clear: John Wick is very much not dead.

Despite the fourth John Wick movie openly stating that Keanu Reeves ’s character died in the finale, it’s more than likely that his death was staged.

Here are five clues that show that the world’s most favorite dog-lover’s story is not over just yet.

5. No Burial Scene

For what it’s worth, John Wick died completely off-screen. Neither did we see him dead nor did we get a burial scene — and that was, mind you, the titular character! Coupled with the fact that action heroes that die off-screen typically don’t end up really dead, this leads us to believe that John Wick’s death was staged.

4. The Dog’s Behavior

In the John Wick universe, dogs are ultimately incredibly skilled and clever fellows, and this especially applies to the protagonist’s dogs. During the cemetery scene, John’s pitbull suddenly looks to the side with his ears perked up: it’s more than likely that he smells his master’s scent or sees John himself in the distance.

3. The Marquis’s Quote

While Marquis Vincent de Gramont could’ve simply been straightforward about his vision of John Wick’s untimely death when he called him “a ghost searching for a graveyard,” this line could have meant more than that. In fact, many fans believe that it foreshadows John’s return: he needed a graveyard to trick the High Table.

2. The Cut Scene

John Wick was never meant to die in the fourth movie in the first place, and director Chad Stahelski revealed that the initial ending had one more scene after the cemetery — the one that showed that John was, in fact, still very much alive. The scene was later cut in a bold move, but the fact that it was there speaks volumes.

1. One. Billion. Dollars.

Come on now, the most obvious indication that John Wick isn’t really dead is the fact that Lionsgate officially confirmed the fifth movie. When the franchise passed the $1B mark, it was clear as day that the studio wouldn’t let our favorite action hero just rest in peace, and now, after the confirmation, we can be sure that John is alive.
