Dr. Jones may be the most famous treasure hunter in movie history, but there are others who deserve your attention as well.

Along with the Star Wars saga, Indiana Jones will forever remain George Lucas' greatest creation, forever associated with adventure films and uncovering the secrets of bygone ages in ancient tombs and temples.

Unfortunately, the genre has become rather stagnant in recent years, as few projects have managed to bring anything new to the table, and even the recent Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny failed to live up to expectations.

So let's take a look at five other treasure-hunting adventure movies that might satisfy your need for adventure.

The Mummy ( 1999)

Although Brendan Fraser has experienced a triumphant resurgence in his career in recent years, many fans still hold a special place in their hearts for his earlier works, including this remake of the 1932 film of the same name.

The movie follows adventurer Rick O'Connell, accompanied by Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan, portrayed by Rachel Weisz, on their quest to stop the ancient high priest Imhotep, played by Arnold Vosloo, from resurrecting his former lover and bending the world to his will.

While it received mixed reviews from critics, fans were much more positive about the movie and grew to love it even more over the years.

Sahara (2005)

Considering how many great performances Matthew McConaughey has delivered over the course of his career, it is no wonder that this 2005 adventure film from his early years has been forgotten by the general public.

Based on the novel of the same name by Clive Cussler, the story revolves around Dirk Pitt, an adventurer on a quest to find the CSS Texas, a ship that carried the remnants of Confederate gold during the Civil War but disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean.

The search eventually leads him to the African continent, where he inadvertently becomes involved in a plot that may be far more important than simply obtaining the prize he seeks.

National Treasure (2004)

Nicolas Cage stars as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a historian and cryptographer obsessed with finding the mythical treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers centuries ago.

The legend of it has been passed down through his family for generations, along with a clue to its location, so he embarks on a journey across the United States and beyond in search of it.

Treasure Planet (2002)

This criminally underrated Disney animated adaptation of the iconic Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island definitely deserves a spot on our list, masterfully blending the elements of a classic treasure hunt story with sci-fi elements in a unique mix.

Jim Hawkins, voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has been fascinated by the stories of the pirate Captain Flint and his riches since childhood, so when he finally gets a chance to find the legendary treasure, he embarks on an adventure without a second thought.

Uncharted (2022)

Vaguely based on the video game series of the same name, this movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg may not be the best adaptation ever, but it still works pretty well as an adventure movie.

Since his childhood in an orphanage, Nathan Drake has dreamed of a life of adventure, but spends his days working as a bartender and stealing from wealthy customers.

But fate gives him a chance when he meets Victor Sullivan, a professional treasure hunter who decides to use the young man's talents and recruits him to join his search for the treasure of the Magellan expedition.
