Movies can be incredible. They can leave a mark on you that lasts for a long time.
But there are some movies that are so remarkable that you can't help but crave for more. It's a shame, though, that not all of them get the sequel treatment that they deserve.
Even some of the most beloved movies have been left without a follow-up, for various reasons such as studios not being interested, creators moving on to other projects, or actors declining to return.
1. Constantine
Constantine, a movie released in 2005 went on to earn $230.9 million worldwide. Although it was not a massive success, it made a profit and has gained a cult following over the years.
Both Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz expressed their desire to return for a sequel, but it seemed unlikely until the recent change in leadership of the DC Universe.
We will have to wait and see what happens, but hopefully, it will progress.
2. The Nice Guys
Despite receiving a positive rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Nice Guys did not perform well at the box office.
In 2018, filmmaker Shane Black expressed his eagerness to make a sequel, but lamented the lack of financial backing.
Black stated that although he had numerous ideas for a sequel, the film's underwhelming box office revenue did not justify the expense of rehiring its two costly lead actors.
3. District 10
In 2009, Neill Blomkamp made his feature film debut with the sci-fi movie District 9.
The film used a combination of techniques, including conventional filming, fictional interviews, found footage, and surveillance footage, presented in a mockumentary style.
Although it was confirmed that the sequel is at some earlier stage of screenwriting, given the considerable time that has elapsed since District 9, no one expects the sequel to be released anytime soon.
4. Wanted
A 2008 movie Wanted, based on Mark Millar's comic series, about a timid office worker recruited by a group of assassins.
The film featured James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman and was directed by Timur Bekmambetov.
Despite the success of the first movie, Wanted 2 faced significant challenges during development, and producer Marc Platt revealed that the loss of a crucial character played by Jolie made it challenging to create a sequel without repeating the original's story.
As a result, the Wanted 2 project is presently postponed indefinitely.
5. World War Z
Marc Forster's World War Z is a thrilling film starring Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator, who races against the clock to thwart a global zombie outbreak.
The action in that movie is off the charts, and the way they show the chaos spreading worldwide is intense. The ending leaves you on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen next.
The movie proved to be a commercial hit, raking in over $540 million despite a $190 million budget and garnering a devoted fanbase.
Although the announcement of a sequel followed soon after its release, it was shelved in 2019 due to financial constraints.
