5 Lesser-Known Crime Shows on Apple TV+ to Watch in November 2023

In the entertainment industry, there is no limit to the flight of fancy, with an endless number of crazy fantasy and sci-fi TV series whose settings never cease to amaze with their creativity and originality. And yet, many of us do not always like to indulge in fantastical escapism when it comes to TV series, preferring something more down to earth. Like crime shows. Whether it is a documentary series based on real events or pure fiction, it is the realism of the plot that is so appealing.

Of course, few of us would want to identify with the characters in these shows, but the fact that these things could theoretically happen to anyone is probably the most intriguing and unnerving aspect that keeps us coming back for more.

Luckily, Apple TV+ has a pretty good library to satisfy even the most ardent thriller fan, so we've decided to compile a list of great, if lesser-known shows available on the streaming platform this November.

5. The Big Conn (2022, miniseries, Rotten Tomatoes score 67%)

If you live in the U.S., you've probably heard of the most ridiculous attorney of the 21st century, Eric C. Conn. His level of flamboyance could only be matched by Saul Goodman, and his ability to exploit a corrupt system is even more powerful. The entire Commonwealth of Kentucky was filled with billboards featuring his face and life-size mannequins. After the infamous expose by the Wall Street Journal in 2011, many realized that he was nothing more than a common hustler.

Nevertheless, this crook managed to defraud the entire Social Security system, making an insane $550 million. The docuseries The Big Conn gave a biography of this unique individual, though many have noted that the show doesn't focus enough on the corrupt system itself that makes it difficult to receive SSDI and breeds people like Eric C. Conn.

4. Now & Then (2022, 1 season, Rotten Tomatoes score 71%)

The magnificent Rosie Perez stars with an all-Hispanic cast in the bilingual thriller Now & Then, about a group of young people who faced a terrible tragedy that changed the course of their lives. Now, 20 years later, they are forced to reunite after being blackmailed.

3. Shining Girls (2022, 1 season, Rotten Tomatoes score 84%)

Kirby Mazrachi (Elisabeth Moss) works as an archivist for the Chicago Sun-Times. In the past, she was the victim of a horrific attack whose assailant was never found. Years later, still reeling from the trauma, she is determined to find the perpetrator after a murder with similar patterns. She is aided in her search by reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura).

2. Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn (2023, miniseries, Rotten Tomatoes score 88%)

Not long ago, Carlos Ghosn was one of the most influential people in the world. He managed to be CEO of Michelin North America and Renault, chairman of AvtoVAZ and Mitsubishi Motors, and, of course, the infamous chairman and CEO of Nissan. All that changed when, under Nissan's watch, a Tokyo court indicted him on huge charges and, in his own words, held him 'hostage.' This is the story of Ghosn's rise and fall, and his flight to Lebanon.

1. Black Bird ( 2022, miniseries, Rotten Tomatoes score 98%)

Based on the autobiographical novel In with the Devil, the story follows Jimmy Keene, a Chicago businessman and convict who is sentenced to 10 years without parole when he was originally promised only five years imprisonment. However, he agrees to a deal with the FBI that guarantees a full pardon. His mission is to infiltrate a maximum security prison to extract a confession from a serial killer.
