And may the best man win!

South Korean dramas are very popular these days, and it seems that they will continue to conquer the world for the foreseeable future.

Most K-drama fans don't have a favorite genre, they just watch them all, but judging by the fact that there are so many rom-coms, it's safe to say that romantic comedy is probably the genre that viewers enjoy the most.

Even though the premise of a romantic comedy is often quite simple and familiar, the South Korean industry still manages to surprise us with the writing.

For example, one of the most common tropes is the love triangle. And here we have five shows that feature a love triangle in which both male leads had their fair chance to get the girl.

1. The King Loves (2017)

At the center of this K-drama is a sad story about a sacrifice that should be done in order to finally have a chance at free love. We meet Wang Won, the son of the king of Goryeo, who seems to have everything: he is smart, good looking, has a magnetic personality and all.

But with all of that he also has ambition to conquer other lands, with the help of his friend Rin. One day he meets a young woman named San. The girl was so perfect that she made both friends be blinded by her beauty, and that led to a tragedy…

2. Reply 1988 (2015)

This is a K-drama about five best friends who only had each other to lean on when life got harder. They all go to the same school and live in the same neighborhood.

All the five friends are at the center of the series, but the love story goes through Sung Deok Sun, Choi Taek, and Kim Jung Hwan.

Deok Sun is a struggling girl from a poor family, Choi Taek is a musical genius who had to drop out of school to devote his life to music, and Jung Hwan is dreaming about a soccer career. At the end, it was Jung Hwan who was left brokenhearted, and the fans still can’t get over it.

“Junghwan had all of the intentions, but didn't really take any action nor did he ever explain his feelings. His confession scene always breaks my heart, but I am glad the director gave us the chance to see how he grew from his realization that his hesitation was holding him back so much,” Redditor helloshenpai said.

3. Start-Up (2020)

The K-drama that split the Internet in two and almost started a war between fans, Start-Up really played with the nerves of its audience. At the center of the story is Seo Dal Mi, an ambitious young girl who dreams of starting her own company and becoming a successful top manager.

Then two guys come into the picture, one of them being Nam Do San, an owner of a tech company, but a shy one and not so sure of himself. His relationship with Dal Mi was based on real support, and they relied on each other for everything.

Then we met Ji Pyeong, a man very well-known in the tech start-up world. He was willing to create many successful ways for Dal Mi just so she could finally achieve her dreams.

Well, with men like that around, we can see how difficult the choice could be...

4. Jealousy Incarnate (2016)

“That is maybe the only love triangle I can tolerate, maybe because the girl really likes 2 of them and is confused about what to do. Usually in love triangles one party is in unrequited love and trying hard to sabotage the main couple,” Redditor Mathorium said.

At the center of this K-drama is a young girl Pyo Na Ri who works as a meteorologist for a TV station. There she meets the brilliant anchor Lee Hwa Shin, who comes from a rich and successful family.

The two become rivals because Na Ri is willing to work around the clock to become as successful as him, but sparks start to fly between the two of them. And to add more drama, Hwa Shin's best friend Jung Won enters the picture and steals the show...

5. True Beauty (2020)

In a world of fake beauty, Lim Ju Gyeong found her own medicine to become pretty: she learned the art of makeup and is now considered the most beautiful girl out there, but the thing is, she would never show her real face to the world, because she is afraid of criticism.

But lucky for her, she has Lee Su Ho, the only boy who has seen her without makeup and is in love with her. He has a dark past, but he supports Ju Gyeong in everything and wants her to believe in herself.

What’s more, Ju Gyeong has another supportive man around, and it’s Han Seo Jun. But is there really a choice?
