If you missed them for some reason, you must have wondered how the plot could have taken such a turn in the first place.

Sometimes the movie just goes on and on, especially when you're in the theater and suddenly you have to leave for a minute to go to the bathroom or take an urgent phone call.

But when you come back, it seems like you're watching a completely different movie, wondering what just happened and turned the plot upside down.

So here are five short movie scenes that, if missed, can leave the viewer completely confused. Beware of possible spoilers.

Meet Joe Black (1998)

Since the movie starts out as some kind of romantic story, you might end up scratching your head over the changed behavior of Brad Pitt's character if you miss this crucial scene.

We are, of course, talking about him being fatally hit by not one, but two cars, and literally Death taking his form to meet Bill Parrish, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins.

The Departed (2006)

Near the end of the movie, undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio ) finally captures Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), the Irish mob "mole" in the Boston police department, and rides down in an elevator with him.

Just when you think this is the perfect time to take a break, the twist with Costigan getting shot goes right over your head and the last part of the movie seems to make no sense.

Barbarian (2022)

If you took a bathroom break in the middle of the movie, you must have thought you came back to the wrong theater, because the plot takes a 180-degree turn and completely changes perspective from Georgina Campbell's character to Justin Long's, who wasn't even in the first half.

From Dusk till Dawn (1996)

Another twist that turns the story upside down, if you went into the movie unaware of it and somehow missed it, it was definitely quite a surprise.

The story of two criminals who have taken hostages turns into a vampire horror movie, as the bar where they are staying turns out to be full of hungry bloodsuckers.

Gone Girl (2014)

The movie starts out as a mystery, with everyone suspecting Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck ) of murdering his wife, so you might not expect the main twist to be revealed about halfway through.

The scene where the aforementioned missing wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), explains her intricate plan to the audience is crucial, and if you miss it, you will wonder why she is even alive until the end credits.
