Nowadays it is not uncommon for TV series to have crossovers with other shows, and most fans seem to enjoy seeing their favorite characters from one series appear in another.

Not only do crossovers create an increase in audience engagement, but they also allow for deeper storylines that connect characters in different series.

Grey's Anatomy was used to introduce fans to Station 19, which follows the lives of firefighters in Seattle. The series has had multiple crossover episodes, and this makes sense considering there would be interactions between the two professions. However, Station 19 isn't the only series that has made reference to Grey's Anatomy.

Fans of Supernatural were both shocked and excited when realizing during a certain episode of the Supernatural, that multiple references were being made to the iconic Grey's Anatomy. Although the two shows may not have a lot in common, Grey's Anatomy fans quickly recognized the references made to the medical drama, and they loved it. For Supernatural fans with a basic knowledge of Grey's Anatomy, the references would have been pretty easy to pick up on too.

The Supernatural episode in question, titled Changing Channel, sees the characters becoming stuck in a TV show. The first and most obvious clue fans picked out about where they were stuck was the name of the hospital in the TV show: Seattle Mercy. The name of the actual hospital in Grey's Anatomy is initially Seattle Grace, close enough.

Next, there was Dr. Wang, a talented heart surgeon just like Grey's Anatomy's Dr. Yang, followed by another iconic name: Ellen Piccolo, referring to the star of Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo. The Ellen reference may have only clicked for Grey's Anatomy viewers, who know she plays Meredith.

And the links just kept getting better. All Grey's Anatomy fans will remember McDreamy and McSteamy. The pair of dashing doctors were a big attraction for Grey's Anatomy audience, and the writers of Supernatural remembered this too, as their faux Grey's Anatomy had a handsome doctor of their own known as McSexy, complete with perfect hair of course.

To top it all off, the show known as "Dr. Sexy MD" had its fair share of drama, with a patient shooting Dean, one of the main characters on Supernatural. It's not a reference to Grey's Anatomy unless it has a moody soundtrack, and fans feel that Dr. Sexy MD delivered the perfect amount of what they could only describe as "sappy" music.

Fans of Grey's Anatomy can certainly agree that the Supernatural managed to include all of the essential Grey's components in their episode but in a much less somber and serious way, and they loved connecting all the references.
