5 Harry Potter One-Liners That Prove The Movies Killed All The Sass Of The Books

Harry Potter is known and loved by movie fans for being brave and bold, but if you've never read the books, you may not know that the Chosen One also had a way with words, never shying away from a sarcastic punch line.

Here are some of the one-liners from The Boy Who Lived that for some reason never made it into the movies, robbing us of the sarcastic king that Harry really was.

The Deathly Hallows

"If anyone shouldn't go, it's Harry, he's got a ten-thousand-Galleon price on his head -"

"Fine, I'll stay here," said Harry. "Let me know if you ever defeat Voldemort, won't you?"

A true hero knows that sarcasm is the best coping mechanism – even when you're in the middle of a Horcrux hunt and your redheaded friend occasionally laments that there are no five-star hotels around.

The Order of the Phoenix

His aunt and uncle exchanged looks of outrage. "Listening to the news! Again?"

"Well, it changes every day, you see," said Harry.

News 101 from Harry Potter, anyone? We wonder why this boy never made a career at the Daily Prophet. But we certainly understand why the Dursleys never did.

The Sorcerer's Stone

"They stuff people's heads down the toilet the first day at Stonewall," he told Harry. "Want to come upstairs and practice?"

"No, thanks," said Harry. "The poor toilet's never had anything as horrible as your head down it - it might be sick."

Just so you know, Harry was already sharp-tongued at the age of ten. This was probably the first time Harry shot back at Dudley Dursley (but certainly not the last).

The Prisoner of Azkaban

"Pity you can't attach an extra arm to yours, Malfoy," said Harry. "It could catch the Snitch for you."

The movies have been criminally reluctant to give us more Harry vs. Malfoy content. This particular exchange from The Prisoner of Azkaban could have been a perfect addition to the movie; although we have to admit, it's already enough they kept Hermione's glorious punch in the face.

The Half-Blood Prince

"There's no need to call me sir, Professor."

Easily the sickest burn Harry Potter ever delivered in the books was, of course, aimed at Professor Severus Snape, who tries to insist that Harry call him "sir" — only to walk into his own trap. Unfortunately, the line never made it into the movie.
